Thanks. And people think our rules are complicated here. I beg to differ with their assumptions with the preference point system. The way it works out West is that there are certain pools of people that get a percentage of tags alloted to people with "X" amount of preference points. Say you have 10 preference points. The higher number of preference points you have the greater your chances of drawing a tag. A buddy and I are maxed out on preference points in Wyoming for elk. We started buying them the first year that they were offered and have purchased one every year since. We have a MUCH higher chance in getting drawn for the area that we want than someone that has less preference points. Difference is Wyoming has a much greater supply of elk tags than Kentucky to help cycle through applicants. Also many fewer residents wanting elk tags = more tags for NRs. If Kentucky instituted a preference point system, the only people who would ever have decent odds of drawing a tag would be children, who got a point every year until they were a senior citizen. If you are currently competing with 1075 people per tag with zero points, next year you would be competing with 1075 people per tag with one point. Still no advantage. You would have to outlive everyone else in your point pool. True, but you'd have to take out the random people that actually got drawn with that number of preference points. In any case, I never win anything that I enter, so I gave up trying to get a tag there years ago.

Hoping to get drawn for bear this year, will be my 4th preference point. Putting in for my Minnesota bull elk tag, and hoping this will be the year to get a moose tag in Ontario. Im getting older so I sure hope to get this bucket list Moose tag.

My son in law drew a cow elk tag in Michigan last year and got one. He is ineligible to draw another cow tag for ten years. Can stay in the game trying to draw a bull tag, but that is a one per lifetime tag. I think they only kill around 200 elk per year in MI. Non-residents can't apply in MI.

I done some work last year in northern Michigan there differently some area’s up there that would hold elk.I worked in a resort that was in the Elk area I believe…

Pretty much wherever my buddy has gone, he's shot some nice antelope in recent years and had success every year. It looks like Unit 22

I'm planning on hunting IN and OH for whitetail. I've put in for all the east/midwest/south elk draws, AZ elk, and plan to put in for CO and MT elk draws. MT is probably my only realistic chance. Did have my nephew put in for an AZ cow elk hunt which is a fairly likely draw. I put in for several moose draws in the NE but know there's no real chance on those.

I’ll take any advice you can give me sir. When you confirm the unit let me know. We didn't see too many deer in the area but a nearby unit has some nice elk in it. They only draw every 2-3 years and limit the tags so much that none make it down to the NR random drawing.

I'll be hunting deer in IN, deer and elk here in CO and maybe deer in IL and WI depending on logistics. Currently holding out for a bit of a wild card/lottery thing I have cooking. Could change everything but more likely for next year.
