Ohio season ended on the 5th and they already released the 2022/23 deer hunting season. Two days after closing of Archery season. ow.ly/4SAy50MLHnRHow many months will IDNR to release theirs? On the survey I was wrote a long statement on the poorly written regulations and why their information is so slow. I counted for 1 doe. Hamilton: 1,193

In general, October 1st is the 1st day of archery season. Gun season is the first Saturday after veterans day. If veteran's day falls on a Saturday it will be the following Saturday but in laymen's terms it's still the first Saturday AFTER Veteran's Day. You can set your calendar by it. Urban has a little bit different rules that I am not fully aware of.

I only glance at the daily reports about 2 or 3 times per season. Thank you that keep it updated. Whatever the numbers are really do not affect my quality of life anyhow. Others may have a reason to get it sooner but just because Ohio has theirs out does not make it a reason for Indiana to have theirs out. Is there a pool or bet running?

Back in the Stone Age when I first started deer hunting the “early archery season” came in on October 18th. Firearms was, and still is, the first Saturday after Veterans Day and ran fir two weeks. Then there was a five day period with no deer hunting at all. Then muzzleloader season and late archery season came in for two weeks. Then it was all over . No youth weekend.
Contrast that with todays seasons and you can see there have been numerous changes.

Just getting the online daily total kills is plenty good enough for me.
The annual deer reports are nice once they come out, but to be honest a lot of it is way over my head. Maybe a breviated layman’s language report before the all bells and whistles one would be nice?

Long bows or recurve bows, shotguns and traditional flint caps muzzleloaders.

I don’t think they were always legal in late archery, but that’s where they made their debut. At least without a permit.

Greg, I think the first crossbow use was by handicapped and that was in the early 80s IIRC. A politician tried to push through a season for everyone to use a crossbow. Not the proper way to set any season. Not sure if money withheld was threatened or not but the IDNR relented. It whizzed Jim Mitchell off and he said there will be a crossbow season concurrent with the late archery season and antlerless deer only. I’m not sure what year that was because I hunted with a compound then and was not all that interested in crossbows. After I started using a crossbow my first foray into crossbow hunting rules was to have crossbowers be able to take a buck in the late season. Of course I got kick back from the organized hunting groups, but it did pass. Then I started working on full inclusion. That took ten years to get that done. I firmly believe that it would have been faster and easier if the politicians had not muddied the waters and steeled resolve against crossbows from Jim Mitchell.

Reports charts grafts are nice to look at and helpful to them making changes but I don’t see how it changes or matters to me other than how many deer I can take it’s two I don’t care if I can take six it’s two that’s the most I can eat and probably 60 to 70 percent of the people hunting are going to be hunting the same deer they passed on this year Other than public guys and a good share of them won’t travel unless it’s a park type hunt few guys have the time or are going to drive 4 or 5 hours to hunt because 5 county’s away has a better kill rate back before my leg started screwing up I did but that was for fun/ vacation I really enjoyed hunting public ground I’d go to OH KY IL to hunt but it was always during bow
Maybe I missed your point but as a whole I’m happy with our DNR they have limited staff limited funding I don’t agree with everything but as a whole I believe they do a fairly good job
