Contrary to Biden my pay increase (actually was none) does not keep up with everything on the rise. These increases (Indianapolis) are compared to the same period last year. Our average electric bill for the past 3 months is up 24%. Our combined gas and water/sewer for the past 3 months is up 18%. And these are low increases compared to some friends that say they have seen their bills double or more compared to last year.

I feel your pain. In Evansville electric rates through Centerpoint are insane. I know people who pay $700-$1000 per month for gas and electric. I heat with wood so mine stay about $150 month.

I heat with wood also. It cracks me up when people say I have "free heat". Obviously, it's cheaper than gas or electric, but it definitely is not free.

Checked our bill for the last month and compared it to last year. This year, for January, we used 400 kwh less, and paid $16 more.

I work for a public utility. The cost of supplies, parts, chemicals, etc. has skyrocketed. We have been short staffed for months. They can't get anyone to apply for the jobs. They keep raising the start out pay. The cost to get and keep qualified workers is climbing too. All these increases get passed on to the rate payers.
We are running on such a tight budget They have to decide what broken equipment gets fixed and what gets ignored. We have a pump leaking sludge so bad it is flooding part of the underground tunnel. I used skids to build a bridge so we can get through it without walking through a nasty mess. We were told there isn't money in the budget to repair the leaking pump. When the weather warms up that flooded area is going to start smelling pretty bad.

How much has managements pay increased over the past 2 years, including bonuses? Do you have any idea what the profit/loss statements look like for the utility? I get the "costs are rising" thing, but on the other hand our wages haven't gone up the same amount. My natural gas bill has doubled in the past 24 months, and that is strictly what I am paying per therm, I am not talking about how much gas was used. It went from $0.63/therm to $1.24/therm. My electric went from $0.19/kWh to $0.23/kWh. I am on a well and septic, so no sewer or water charges here. My fish prices that I received from my suppliers has jumped between 20% and 35% over last year. That is the price that I pay in Arkansas for the fish, and does not include transport to northern Indiana. Fish food prices have increased roughly 10% over 2022 prices too. If I were to pay for fish to be delivered to me here, I would be charged a $320 delivery fee for every 50# of live fish that were delivered. That may not seem like a lot to some people, but when you are talking about Triploid Grass Carp that weigh a pound or more each, just the delivery fee really drives up the price of the fish.

Might be a good time to go looking. When I had my office in Franklin the head of the wwtp made more money than anyone in government and he got pretty much what ever he wanted.

I don't know what the increases are for upper management. I do know several years back we had a pay freeze. Management chose to first freeze their pay and keep the raises for the workers. That was not enough and our pay got frozen also. We are a non profit organization ultimately ran by directors appointed by politicians.

I'm trying to transition into the drinking water industry. I'm tired of the other side. Best of luck. Wwtp is a dirty job! Saw a private wwtp in Bedford was hiring a lab tech for $25/hr. Dang easy job and I can verify they don't need any schooling. A pulse and ability to show up is the bare minimum.

That's a 3 time sweat right there...free my potatoes... ? Wood is not free. You pay for it with sweat... 3 times you pay for it. Once when your cutting it. Once when you split it. And once when you burn it.

Wood heat is, by far, the best heat there is. It just instantly warms you and keeps you there. As for splitting...hydraulics are your best friend.

Our electric bill is up significantly, despite keeping the temp below 70 at all times and around 66 throughout the day when we are gone.
Thus far the cat has not complained.
