I hated it at first. Back then I was killing two bucks 1.5 - 2.5 years old. A few years after the change I started killing a 3.5+ year old buck each season. I like the challenge of holding off on smaller bucks and waiting for a shooter. I do not want it to change back. "I like the challenge of holding off on smaller bucks and waiting for a shooter." Great example of a hunter doing his/her part in getting mature bucks in their cross hairs. Sorry if the term "cross hairs" was a trigger for those so opposed to hunting with a firearm. Sorry if the word "trigger" was also found offensive to those so opposed to hunting with a firearm.

A wise old man once told me - "You'll never kill a big buck if you keep shooting the little bucks". I haven't killed a year and half old buck in over 35 years. Shooting the first 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 year old buck that you see, extremely limits you on ever killing a 3 1/2+ buck. That doesn't mean that the 3 1/2 + bucks are not out there. A LOT of us accepted that challenge a long time ago.

Some results from another hunting forum I'm in, granted this is country wide and only a few hours old. A lot of people are looking for minimum antler size requirements with multiple bucks.

That what’s Great about the OBR you still kill any small inferior Deer or you can also hold out for a mature Deer! But you only get one…

My dislike for anter restrictions is that is does prohit/limit the hunters that are just looking for meat. If he/she is happy putting their buck tag on a spike or forky, then they should be aloud.

I wouldn't mind a OBR that is tied to the type of weapon that is used.
Now let me throw a monkey wrench into the mess. Look at the depredation tags that are issued to the farmers. They make no stipulation that the deer killed have to be does, and what bothers me the most is that there is no stipulation that the deer have to be utilized in some way after they are killed. So, wanton waste is OK during depredation hunts, and you could shoot all bucks if a bachelor group was eating the crops in that area. From my limited knowledge about the depredation tags, they are issued at the rate of 1 tag per 10 acres, so in theory if a farm is 1,000 acres that's 100 deer that could be shot.
Hunters and Farmers Feeding the Hungry sure could use that meat.......
I can't tell you how many good deer I have passed on the hopes that next year they will be a great deer, only to never see them again, even on camera. The farmer next to where I hunt hates deer and I was told he gets depredation tags every year. How many bucks are shot there? He farms close to 1,000 acres adjoining that property that I hunt.

Proven scientific fact that antler restrictions DO NOT work , and worse they have a adverse effect of having more genetically inferior bucks left to breed. ( EX. a 1.5 year old 8 or 10 point would be legal to shoot, and a 3.5 year old 4 point would not?) TERRIBLE IDEA. I have a 2.5 year old 11 point this year that could be a giant in 3 more years. With antler restrictions , he would be legal to shoot. That's why hunter's should have less input and state deer biologist majority of input. What's best for a healthy deer herd should be No.1 priority.

It’s public information on amount of Dep. tags given and what amount is killed… it’s in the deer report every year when a report is done.

So are you in favor of doing away with OBR so you can harvest 3 or more bucks? Actually not. I can't physically hunt that many places. I already cover hunting in 2 states and I really don't like gun hunting so doing away with OBR won't do me any good. Plus I'm already try to get less male deer killed.

Back then I was lucky to see anything over 1.5 old. Now at least I am seeing deer that are 2.5 and up. So we definitely have a shift older now.

How about OBR for public and doing away with it on private? Just sayin’ 93% of deer are shot on private property…. The OBR isn’t going anywhere anytime soon the minority nay sayers will just have to deal with it.Sorry but that how it works.

I definitely understand that but it definitely doesn’t help anyone trying to manage larger tracts though. I’ve had “bully” bucks that I’d love to get out of there but hold out. My whole early hunting life was spent on public ground so I definitely see the need for OBR in these areas. To many if I don’t somebody will mentality’s there. Agreed though that it probably won’t change. I’ll just keep inviting buddies to help with these management issues.

Still doesn't mean that I have to like it. Or that I can't voice my opinion about it. There has been a lot of changes since I started hunting them. Like the 3 buck rule. Archery, Firearms and I am pretty sure Muzzleloader. Now look at us. Archery has bows that are unbelievable compared to what we use to use. And we still have to extend the season to accommodate them. Went from shotguns to the evil high powered rifles. And then we have two weeks of that Ol Primitive muzzleloaders. And we know there just like Davey Crockett used. So we should have a special season. But through it all. Look. Just look. If it wasn't for the OBL. We surely would have wiped out the deer herd with all the other advancements. I think I see the light now......Nope OBL still sucks. No matter if it goes or not. My two cents worth.
