Full disclosure: My wife is an administrator at a public school in a Louisville suburb.
She came home yesterday with tears in her eyes and a bottle wine in hand. She has decided that it is time to look for another profession. Why? Students and parents (refer to my previous post in thin thread). Also, she can't keep good teachers and support staff for the same reason. Not because of pay, but for the same reason. Students and parents.
The spark yesterday was a confrontation with an arrogant, disrespectful minority student. The young lady has been assigned to a particular table in the cafeteria due to persistent bad behavior. She decided to get out of her assigned seat and socialize with some friends across the room. My wife directed her to return to her seat. She said "I don't have to listen to you" and went about her business. Again, my wife requested that she return to the proper seat. "You're just a racist !@#$% and I'm telling my parents." Common sense would tell most of us that this student should face some discipline. My wife said that every time this girl is disciplined the mother calls a school board member and cries racism, even when a minority teacher or administrator is the authority.
I suspect that this will blow over with my wife, but it is an example of what educators go through with today's young people.

Not enough money in the world to make me be a teacher. No way on the planet could I deal with the kids, or especially the parents.

With our educators, it seems like they are in a situation where they are given a job and dared to do it! In a lot of schools, higher up administrative or in beermaker's situation board support is minimal at best when it comes to discipline and the kids know it. Too bad that beermaker's wife as an administrator and has to put up with these situations. Where I coached, the Assistant Superintendant continues to ask about being a bus driver.....my response is "how bad do you want a lawsuit".....LOL Kudos and thanks to those who continue to teach!

I am in year 28 right now and have never seen things like they are right now. I have seen our administrator 2 times since we have been back from Christmas break.
