Mean Gene, That WILL add a lot of value!! The objective is for the house to sell as soon as the buyer steps into that room. Even with no wood on the walls, or any real finish work, the overall view ain't too shabby.

Well, wasn’t a planned project but my son decided to be a cool guy and do some reverse donuts in his car and then this happened. Lesson learned for him as he paid for the tow and the new axle. Luckily he got a buddy to tow the car to our house and only wanted $50 so my son gave him $70 and that still saved us probably over $200. He worked on things as I gave guidance during the IU game and then after the game I went out and we got everything fixed up and running good by about 7:30. Went way smoother than most mechanical fixes. Took it for a drive around our big country block and it drives way smoother than it has in a good while. Think that axle was going bad anyway but his donuts took it over the edge. I had never done a replacement of an axle but it was fairly simple ( thanks to YouTube) and I’m sure once again saved me a bunch of money. The fix was a learning experience for both of us.

The objective is for the house to sell as soon as the buyer steps into that room. Even with no wood on the walls, or any real finish work, the overall view ain't too shabby. Dang...you sure you are ready to leave that view? You have no idea how much I go back and forth. It's like an Asian carp when a boat drives over the top of the school in shallow water. My wife, however, in her mind we're already there and grandkids are running through the house. Any guesses as to who prevails? This is the first time we've gone from dirt to house. We designed it, and she and I did the entire interior. I have several blood stains on the backs of boards in the house, so I'm fairly well invested in it. Still, fishing, family, music, and debt free-wise we'll be far better off in Indiana. I retired from the state fire department in California in 2009, and we lived for almost 30 years in an area that was almost a carbon copy of where we are in Montana. Didn't think we'd ever leave, but we did. I, like many others, complained bitterly about the California government, the fees and taxes, and the general snotty attitude of the people, and when we finally couldn't take it anymore we left everything we knew and went out into the unknown. Instead of shriveling up in a ball, the experience enriched us, and I firmly believe we are better off for doing it. Even friends of ours there got nasty about us leaving because we were "running away" and wouldn't stay and fight. Truth be known, that "fight" was lost many years ago. No, we weren't running, we just put our money where our mouths were and left the crap in search of a better life. We found it, and it's made us happy, but now new doors are opening up, and it's high time to explore other worlds. To those people who poo-poo'd us, we aren't the gutless ones. If we move to Indiana we'll leave that view, and a really cool house behind, but we can both see wide varieties of opportunities standing in front of us telling us to come on down. No guts, no glory...right?

That is a great way to live life. I 100% agree with your perspective. Indiana doesn't have the view but it sounds like it has your hearts and being close to your grandkids as they age will be awesome for you guys and them.
I am sure you will hit the ground running here.

I am sure you will hit the ground running here. One of my dreams has been to be able to hunt/fish on my own property. I believe that is realistic there. We're playing at one civil war reenactment already, and had to turn down another because I'll be in Mexican waters catching tuna (hopefully). My grandkids are calling/texting me all the time saying they want us to come live there. Yeah, I don't think we'll be bored.

I have no doubt that your house will sell in the blink of an eye. The neighbors are going to be selling their house shortly adn moving to Florida. Downsizing quite a bit. The wife is ready to move now, the husband not so much. BUT they already put a deposit on a house down there, inspection will be tomorrow and if that goes well they will be closing on Feb 28th.

Finished porch wall #3. Tomorrow I'll start working on the big front wall. Figuring if the 2 side walls took 3 days each, the front wall will take at least 2 weeks.

Got the barn floor sealed a few weeks ago and now working on putting the stairs in the barn to get to the second story. Started late this morning and just about got them done, but I made it a little wider than planned so I’m three steps short. Finish them up this week sometime.

If you figured them steps out your a better man than me I swear I can figure roof rafters with all kinds of hips valleys but to this day I can’t get stairs right I’ve had my framer show me teach me and I still can’t get them right
