Lets see...... 1) Get the County to approve a zoning amendment to add Aquaculture to the A-1 ag zoning that I have now. 2) Once that is accomplished, dig 8 ponds that are 1/10 acre each. 3) Tear out wall between the kitchen and living room to make it an open concept. 4) Fix some nail pops and repaint the whole inside of the house. 5) Rip out the carpeting in the Living room, hallway, and 3 bedrooms. 6) Put new carpeting in Master and Guest bedrooms. 7) Put hardwood flooring (using a laminate like Pergo) in the living room, hallway and 3rd bedroom, turning it into a home office. 8) Remodel the master bathroom, which will include moving a wall about 10" to make room to put a tub where the walk in shower is now, and remove the jet tub to make that area a larger walk-in shower area. 9) Replace all the countertops with poured epoxy countertops and also have the same guy make poured epoxy walls for the walk in shower. 10) Power wash and re-stain the back porch 11) Organize the pole barn into a workable shop area with welding benches. (Already have the welding benches, and will be getting two large tables with a parts washer tank between them.) I'm sure I'm leaving something out, if not multiple things. Getting rid of that tub will make that bathroom twice as big and a much cleaner look And I don’t believe number 11 I’ve seen that building a summer worth of work in by itself

Nice work Mean Gene. I especially like the doorway. The rest of you are making me look bad too. This year I want to finish digging a drain system around my barn. It was originally built in a low spot ( no raised pad or anything ) so part of the surrounding field just drains right into it. It's required some creative solutions. If I can get the money together ( roughly the GDP of the United States for a year) we are going to gut the bathroom. Failing tile and a leaky stall setup are wreaking havoc. Really looking forward to getting that done. My bathroom would look right at home in Iraq, and not in the good part of town. Buy a tall toilet when you do worth every penny you pay Exactly....handicap seats are worth the money.

It’s really all relevant my buddy Steve makes 1/2 what I do and yet he makes a reasonable income for his area he’d be broke here he’s looking at buying 40 acres by his house to build on and hunt I’d be lucky to buy two acres here for that price maybe only one. Just even in our state look at the cost of living homes it’s a huge swing depending on we’re you live.

At 74, I'm tired from just reading all of this! Think I'll put the laptop aside and take a nap!

Exactly....handicap seats are worth the money. We put in 17" tall toilets with 4" throats. Easy sittin', easy standin', and easy flushin'.

Lets see...... 1) Get the County to approve a zoning amendment to add Aquaculture to the A-1 ag zoning that I have now. 2) Once that is accomplished, dig 8 ponds that are 1/10 acre each. snip So, if a guy has the land, but no pond, what's it cost to build one? It all depends on the soil, what prep work has to be done before moving the first bucket of dirt, size of the pond, how far the dirt has to be moved, ground water levels, etc., etc. I can run heavy equipment, and my cousin said he'd come over and help - he's run a dozer and other heavy equipment for 40 or so years, so my labor is free for my project. He said that with the right equipment he could get it done in 2 weeks or less. This is a flat alfalfa field and the dirt will be put around the ponds to make embankment ponds only 7 feet deep, so not a lot of dirt has to be moved. Approximately 98 cubic yards per pond. and I will have to dig another 1/2 acre pond for recreation to get enough dirt to make all the embankments around the production ponds. My pond, which is an acre, 22' deep, including spreading and smoothing the dirt out around the property cost me close to $30K and that was back in 2009. I helped and rented all the equipment with the exception of an ASV and excavator. I had a guy I knew that had the equipment come and dig it. I ran the dump truck, dozer and back hoe, his wife or another guy ran the ASV, he ran the excavator. One project near Rochester where the dirt work was finished in November was in the $35K range, and it was in a field that didn't need a lot of dirt to be transported a long ways. The customer is putting in the fish habitat now and will be stocked in the Spring. Another project that is still going on is running into the 6 figure range, but that is between 10 and 20 acres, depending on how big the customer wants to make it. Hopefully that will be completed this coming year - the dirt guy is working on it between jobs. That job has a lot of excess water that has to be dealt with - 6" and 8" PTO driven pumps are required to keep the water at bay. That one has the focus of the pond for waterfowl, and fish are a secondary consideration. I'll be meeting with a potential customer near Michigan City next week for a possible pond there, and possibly another one near Columbus, but I don't even have the address for that one yet.

Now for the re-organization and more cleaning. I need to stop working, that will get the projects done faster, but then where will the $$ come from?

I'm building a one allen block wall with cap about 60 feet long. I'll be moving my 25 hives above the wall. I tore down my garden and putting it back up where I had the pond. I'm also moving my 16 solar panels to a better spot. I'll be a busy bee. I'll be starting the wall after today when weather permits. 40 and above.
