Anyone else about ready to give up on IU basketball? I've been a fan since the Bobby Knight days but they are about to loose a long time fan. Last night was huge disappointment. How they can be ranked in the top 20 is a mystery to me.

I was thinking they were expected to have a good team this year. Apparently not! It's a shame.
When I was a kid and time moved slower ( and players stayed longer ) it seemed as if players like Alford, or Uwe Blab would always be on the team. Bob Knight glowering at the sidelines, Gene Keady and his comb-over dropping by for a visit. Ah, memories.

Yeah they haven't done as well as I had hoped they would.

They came out on fire last night. Getting a 21 point lead at one time and then in typical IU fashion they let Iowa come back and win. I couldn’t believe it. Thompson getting hurt and leaving sure didn’t help. It does get hard to watch them, but I’ll continue to each time I can. Watching the women usually results in a better outcome.

I think there are multiple reasons why the team isn't as good as people hoped. First of all, Trayce Jackson-Davis is a very good college player, but he is playing out of position and they have very little height across the front line. Secondly, their starting point guard is out for the foreseeable future with a foot injury and now Race Thompson is hurt again. Throw in the fact that they can't seem to compete mentally or physically for the entire game and they are lucky to have the record they do.
As far as why this has been the way it has for so long, IMO Coach Knight should have moved on (or retired) before he was fired. Kids had changed and they weren't responding to coaching like that anymore and the president of the university wanted him gone. Then IU let the players dictate that Mike Davis be named head coach. After that debacle, they replaced him with Kelvin Sampson who was a cheater, Dan Dakich was a fill in, and Tom Crean flat out sucked as did Archie Miller.
I'm not willing to give up on them as I do think Mike Woodson and his staff will get this turned around as it's only year two and there wasn't much to work with when he took over.
But I will admit that it's been tough to be an IU fan over the last 20 years.

Iu fan here too. It was a hard loss but every road game is going to be hard. Blowing an early lead sucks. Having the worst officiating impact the final few plays sucks, but how could the game been so close that it mattered.
This team isn't bad. They were overrated early on to think they were best in big10. They have only lost 4 games. 2 to very good top level teams. 1 to rutgers that beat Purdue at home and should have beat OSU at home too. But another horrible call at the last shot allowed Ohio State to win.
I loved Bob knight but really makes me want to puke every time I hear how Bobby would done this or done that....he finished middle of big 10 3 of last 4 years or 4 out of last 5 years at IU. He wasn't setting the college world on fire at Texas either. So yeah we don't have the teams of 75-87...
The NIL will reduce the drive for athletes to leave early. Now they can make money...be the big man on campus. In fact tjd is a 4-yr sr. Race was like a 6 yr player. X and Miller Kopp ar grad transfers and like 6th year in ncaa. So it isn't like players are all leaving quick. Some do. IU had some like Romeo and Thomas Briant leave early...but they were not able to earn NIL. If I had a kid or influence on an athlete and they could make millions or stay in school and get hurt...show me the $.

IU’s biggest problem is consistency. They sometimes look like world beaters (first 7:30 minute of the Iowa game) and then they go flat.
Iowa is a good team and if IU can get a 21 point lead then Iowa, as well as a lot of teams, is good enough to turn it around and win by a couple.
The FaceBook “coaches” gave them heck but would they have griped if it had been a tight game all night and then lost by 2? Some of these “coaches” are not happy unless IU wins by 20 every time out.

There are some terribly unhappy people out there. If a sport game impacts you this much I truly feel sorry for you. Did anyone see the letter sent to TJD by a "fan" earlier this week. Truly pathetic.

It's a bad situation they have. They played really hard last night I was impressed. I like woody. I hate it for them and my alumni friends. They have a heck of a team if they can stay healthy but good luck in our conference not getting hurt. I think they have made some really bad decisions but I support them and hope they get better.

I did see that letter. That guy was a nut case, but was hoping it put a little fire in tjd, which it did a little but just not quite enough. It is sad to me all the people that get really upset about them losing. If your life happiness depends on some teenagers or early twenties kids choices in a sport you’re going to be quite unhappy a lot of the time. I enjoy watching them and just hope they win more than they lose.

That score sure looks a lot better than the game actually was. Going to have to watch the women now so I can hopefully see a win.

I do not have that channel so can’t watch the women. Didn’t check before I posted to see what channel it was on. Looks like they’re starting off okay though.

Their top player is back so that should be good, Grace Berger. She is a good leader.
