You know I have time for fishing the month of Jan, you all are welcome to come up and I would be happy to guide you around the area lake's, even supply your fishing equipment. I have a friend just up the road that keeps a few of his small cabins heated for the winter that he rents out. That’s a offer I just might take you up on what’s he get out of his cabins barneysresort.com/ Early ice and late ice are some of the best fishing.

There is a airport in Bemidji, MN. That’s a hour away. Major airport would be Duluth, 2 1/2 hours.

Never been up for early ice due to hunting Thanksgiving and Christmas usually our first trip is between Christmas and New Years but mid to late March till ice off is usually our best time to catch fish Part of our problem is we hit lakes the only way getting back is on sleds so we get to fish them at best a day or two a year and the one we have been trying to learn is a big lake I know the fish are in it just got to keep drilling holes till we find the drops humps weeds and stuff

I’d be interested I looked at the Eskimo seems like a good unit thought about getting the insulated one Steve’s got a clam shell it’s nice has the chairs and stuff built in but it’s hard to drag around through the woods trying to get to lakes, we follow the creeks but a lot of times it’s open water so you got to plow through the woods I would never look at anything other than a insulated portable/hub house. I have a single man insulated that I can heat with a match on the coldest days, the hub is nice but to keep it really warm on the cold days I have to use a sunflower on a 20lb cylinder (also insulated). I think Im going to get rid of the single man (clam kenai pro thermal), very nice for hole hopping but to small for a 300lb guy. Im going to replace it with a Clam Yukon XT Thermal, it has a deep heavy sled that I can easily get all my equipment into. I also put runners on all my sleds/houses to keep from wearing out the bottoms. The one I have been looking at is like a pop up hunting blind Steve has got one similar to the one you have the problem is it’s wider than his or my sled and we bust right through the woods creek sides marsh bogs and it’s always getting caught on a tree or shrub I’d like to get everything we need in my pull behind sled it’s also similar to what’s in your photo The other issue is we are loaded down heavy between chainsaw ice augers lp tank pull straps fishing gear food We got to have what ever we need to survive we have no cell coverage and no one is going to be coming it’s up to us to get ourselves out of a jam if something happens

That’s worst than going north by 150 miles guess I didn’t realize just how far north you were Might still be worth the trip would a guy have to have 4 wheel drive to make it around that’s a big difference for me in gas goes from 13 14 pulling a trailer to 7 or 8 with my 4 wheel drive truck. It’s got low gears and a big motor for pushing snow

And no, I don't consider "all season" tires to be snow tires. Wanna be snow tires? Sure. But not real snow tires.

If you wanted to ice fish here, you have to launch your boat. Everything here is open water.

Had my limit of gills in less than 3 minutes, stuck around a half hour and caught a few crappie. Released some 10 inch gills and a bunch in the 9inch range. Glad they dropped the limit to 5.

5 Bluegills is your daily limit? Yes, they changed it from last year (on the lake I was on) rest of the state is 20. Im okay with it as I can go get my 5 about anytime I want. Sucks for vacationers.

Budd, the "bluegill" in the center of the picture isn't a pure bluegill, it is a cross between a BG and something else. What other fish are in the lake?
