There were a few guys years ago that used those. I have not seen them around but I don't hunt like I used to. I could see this working on lake monroe. They get rafts of divers couple times a year. However not huge rafts.
Lots of guys use layouts on goose pond. It is in Linton Indiana and 100% draw so it kind of sucks waiting in line for a chance but typically everyone gets a spot. It is all shallow marsh with no fixed blinds. And 1st come first serve. No gas motors allowed either.

It's all spot and stalk, so just a few birds at a time will work. I typically target groups of 10 or less, sometimes just 1 or 2.

You could make it work for sure. Most who hunt there hide along the banks back in shallower water or off main lake points. Normal duck season the lake is a lonely place. Some crappie fisherman on nice days.

I've often thought about making up something to attach a line and troll while I'm sculling, but never got that industrious. I don't know if it would be worth the effort, but you never know.

Crappie city. Lake has hybrid striped bass that are fun but not sure trolling in winter would be productive. Channel cats are all over the lake too.

Once you move here I usually have room for another guy or 2. May-Oct is my favorite time. Easy low stress fishing. You can keep all the crappie. I get to keep the occasional walleye! Usually fish from 7am till noon-ish. Fridays are best but Sunday morning works too. Just get off the lake by 1000. Gets busy in summer

Kids, grandkids, lots of fishing for stuff we like, looks to be decent deer hunting, and since my wife and I both play bluegrass/old time music, there seems to be a LOT more opportunity to do that. We were at the local rest home yesterday and played for almost 2 hours...we'd love to be able to to that more often in more places. We'd also enjoy having a place where we could have folks over for all day jam sessions.

Nashville Indiana is a great fit for you then. Close to Columbus. It is as touristy as Indiana gets. They have a music shop with banjos, fiddles and dulcimers... Brown County State Park next door has some great things going for it too. Decent options for food if you don't feel like cooking. Halfway between bloomington and Columbus for any shopping needs
Deer hunting is great.

The last two if I didn't have a partner I would not have gotten in. Last year there were a few times where I got one of the last spots as a single. You can still kill birds though with a little scouting. Going during the week is a lot better. I don't worry about it too much since I have a backup private pond I can go to if I don't get in.

My wife was out there a few weeks ago. She said Nashville was ok, but yeah, kind of touristy. She said she liked Hope though. No idea what will be available when we sell, we'll see.

Her grandad owned a hardware store which is now a popular eating place on the main drag. She moved to Indy with her Dad and brothers after her mom died. We did a few reunions there growing up but no real connections anymore.

One of the requirements for whatever we buy will be that I have to be able to hunt something on my own property. A pond of some kind is also pretty much a must because I want to be able to tell the grandkids, "Hey, you guys grab a couple fishing poles, go down to the pond, and bring back some dinner. And, you can rest assured that at some point there will be banjos, guitars, basses, fidles and mandolins sending notes through the trees.

Featherduster might be talking about me for the pond. I own a pond consulting/stocking/everything about ponds business. You can grow some good fish if there is habitat in the pond. Here's some pics from some customers ponds, a few from my 1 ac pond and of some catfish that I stocked in a pay lake in Noblesville that I get from a hatchery - NOT wild caught catfish. 4 and 5 pound largemouth bass electroshocked from a customers 4 acre pond. These fish are about 4 years old. Some 3 year old BLuegills - these were caught 2 years ago. Now they are running around 11" and between 1.5 and 2 pounds. A Yellow Perch from my pond. The handle on the ice scoop is 12" long. Catfish that were stocked in a pay lake. They call us 3-4 times a year to stock it, usually right before any major holiday. Post spawn (5-20-2021) 1.5# Yellow Perch 4 or 5 year old Hybrid Striped Bass, 6 3/4#

The closer you get to Appalachian region of the United States the more Bluegrass you will find...enjoy! billmonroemusicpark.com/2023-festivals/

We've been going to bluegrass festivals since the late 1990s and they are a lot of fun. Used to stay up picking until 2-3 o'clock in the morning, but these days I'm a lot more disciplined...which means I'm too old for that. LOL!
