Late rut probably. They'll start spawning soon I bet. . . . .🤪 Here I was going to blame it on the bobcat we get on trailcam, or the 2 juvenile eagles I saw, or the owl I saw last time. Well, I suppose that sounds a little more logical. Lol

The weather is looking right for another rabbit hunt this weekend. Hopefully some fresh snow will lead to more success!
I'm really wanting to serve my family a delicious rabbit dinner!

Slower day today. Trudged through wet, heavy snow for over three hours. Tried a new unit that looked promising but yielded no rabbits. Went back to one of my honey holes hoping to avoid the skunk. Only flushed one but was able to connect.

I got my tail strapped. 2.5 hours and 5,759 yards later, I got nothing. Lot's of coyote, deer and squirrel tracks but, not a ton of rabbit. I cut one, fresh-ish rabbit track. I followed it to the pines and then the snow disappeared along with the tracks.

Rabbit hunting is proving to be very strenuous work. I walked for three hours today and managed one. Missed two others. This is really making me appreciate how leisurely and relaxing fishing is.

Nice looking rabbit!
And yes, it can be hard work but, even when you get just the one, to me, it's worth it!
I hadn't made it out this weekend but, hopefully next.

Ever hunt with a dog? Definitely worth it if you know someone who has a dog you should definitely try to go with them and see the dogs work.

I decided to see some new ground this morning and it paid off almost immediately. I had only been out of the truck a few minutes when I spotted a promising tangle of thorns and brush. I started walking across it and a rabbit ran out. Got him on the first shot. I walked a couple more hours after. Jumped another but it was too thick and he got away. Hunted from 1030 until 1230. Really nice day out today. Rabbit curry for dinner tonight.

Annual bunny fest. We have friends and family that get together once a year for a day of rabbit hunting. I think we had 9 or 10 guys hunting this time. As you can tell we had a very successful hunt. I think we ended up with 27 bunnies. After the hunt we share a great lunch, a few drinks and of course bragging rights of who shot their limit of rabbits.

Sure miss Saturday and Sundays rabbit hunts. Met at Hardee’s for breakfast and run the dogs until they started chasing deer. Dad was always P’od when they did that. Good times.

Ever hunt with a dog? Definitely worth it if you know someone who has a dog you should definitely try to go with them and see the dogs work. I've been hunting with dogs for over 30 years, rarely hunt without them. Anymore I mainly go just for my beagle's sake. It's getting to be too tiring for me to do much walking so after I get to my neighbor's place I sit on a log most of the time listening to her howl and bark. I love the sound of hunting dogs.

Whooped again. I tried a new spot this afternoon. I jumped rabbits but, couldn't get any shots off. The property is getting some timber taken out and the brush piles were nice. Also big thorn tickets too. I chased rabbits around them a couple times but, I just couldn't get any good shots off. I had one opportunity to shot one that stopped at ten yards. Bush wasn't too thick but, all I could see was its back end. I didn't want to blow the guts out.
It was nice putting boots on new ground anyhow. I traveled 4,102.62 yards.
The landowner came out and checked on me while I was there. He encouraged me to walk out to the other side of his property that boarders the Iroquois and see if I would be interested in waterfowl hunting it. Keeping in mind that I don't know much about waterfowl hunting yet, I thought it looked great. There is a couple spots that the river spills over into small little ponds now. But, by looking at the lines on some trees, you can see that the water floods back there and gets up a little.
