This past Saturday morning I went waterfowl hunting with 3 guys that I met on a Facebook group on Waterfowl Hunting . We ended up going to Grand Kankakee Marsh and lucked out on the first pick . We put out 2 Dozen Duck decoys and 4 Goose decoys and a Mojo duck. We did see 3 groups of ducks in about a two hour span but none of them committed to our calling and to the decoys . But it was a great experience and I learned a lot from them . The group of Hunter’s to our right were shooting and a couple of shots rang to our left .

Hunted there a few times probably 20 yrs ago. 1 time opening early goose my bro n law and I left his house at 1:30AM, 2ND party to sign in.
Saw 1 goose and that was it!

One of the guys cooked bacon and eggs for us . He brought a Colman stove 2 small tote’s with eggs , bacon propane tanks, 20 different types of duck calls , plates , forks, knives and spoons and other items in those containers. And 3 buddy heater’s .

Breakfast on a grill is usually part of the waterfowl ritual... always lots of early mornings... just to sit and wait on the sun to rise...

My uncle hunts some private ground nextvto the Kankakee Marsh. He said it has been really tough.

His signature line was FI TILL I DIE. I = Idiot, you can fill in the rest. He said all duckhunters are FI to some extent. He was a riot some didn't like him but you can't please them all. |

I need to hunt with you guys who fix breakfast. My goal used to be get enough shooting in so we could get to local diner before lunch. Anymore I can hunt all season and not get enough birds for a daily limit! |

We were going to go to LaSalle but the guy that scouted only counted 50 birds and then the 4th guy joined us so we ended up at the Grand Kankakee Marsh hunt club. All this was planned outlast Wednesday.

I think he means grand Kankakee marsh County park??? And if I'm not mistaken isn't it like a 9 am start time or close???

The guy that I was talking to about hunting just called it grand Kankakee Marsh. So I’m not sure what the real name or place was called

I believe that the guys that run the place said that different pits or areas had different shooting times, so make sure that you know what you’re shooting time was

Good for you Mossberg, as long as you had a good time, that’s what counts. I’m blessed to hunt only private ground nowadays, and I’m not very patient, Hard for me to sit more than 2 hours after shooting light. And no way I’m dragging all that stuff to make breakfast! Seems like I already have a truck full of junk as it is. Your not too far from where I live, was water open or did you had to break ice?
