After spending the day in the woods preparing for season, I decided to shoot both my compound and crossbow. I just bought my wicked Ridge NXT 400 this spring from Wyvern Creation's. Zero issues with getting it sighted in. This afternoon, I cocked it for the first time and the sled would not release and let me get it out from underneath the scope. I spoke with David at Wyvern Creation's and he talked me thru fixing the acudraw. He had me take of the lid and immediately a retainer pin fell to the ground and I saw the spool cover was bent. He had me take it off and straighten it after I fixed the backlash on the sled string. He said that's caused by a weak or broken spring. He told me to put it all back together and try again. He asked me to let him know how it goes. We hung up, I reassembled and began to cock the crossbow again. I got about 3/4 of the way back and BOOM!!! A big explosion on the inside and the sled brakes in hal and the crossbow dry fires. The broken sled hits the scope, knocks it crooked and brakes a turet before slamming into my chest and knuckles. Not exactly sure where to go from here. I know that I do not trust this particular crossbow now. Limbs could be cracked/twisted with the dry fire and there's obviously an issue with the acudraw. David seems like a great guy and I'm sure he'll make it right. I just hope it won't cost me anything out of pocket.

Man, that sucks. From what I’ve heard of him he will get ya fixed up and ready to go as quickly as he can. I’d think it wouldn’t cost you anything out of pocket.

Ask him if he can send a new one or a loaner until yours is fixed!
He has to know it’s Hunting season….

Man that sucks to hear!
I am gonna preach something that holds true. Sure seems like a lot of high performance crossbows have more problems than slower ones. I know they are awesome, especially Ravins and the like. But, you just dont hear or too many slower bows <350fps coming apart.
I have a couple crossbows, 330fps Camx, and an Excal M380. Loaned out another Camx and Excal M330. Never a problem.
That's not helping your situation, but just saying what I've seen. GOOD LUCK!!!

I have to mail it back (at my expense) and he says he'll repair it and send back after he repairs and inspects it. He'll pay return shipping.
It's not that I have a lack of faith in David, although I don't KNOW him, he has been decent to work with during the crossbow purchase. But, I do not have faith in this particular crossbow. I don't know that I want it fixed and returned. I think I want it replaced. Period.
I will be contacting Ten Point today and see what they suggest.
I truly think the most fair thing to do is send me another crossbow with a return shipping label inside. I'll send this damaged one back in the same box that the new comes in.

I think I’d be just as hesitant as you are and your last scenario makes the most sense and I’d push for that as hard as I could. If it’s a no all the way around, then move from there. Maybe sell it once it’s fixed and purchase a new one. Not ideal, but doubt you’ll ever fully trust that particular one again.

I agree, being hunting season the best option is shipping a new one. I agree with Deadeer with the 350fps. I read an article a few years back that stated the issues over 360fps. That was with traditional crossbows. Not sure what is the best for the new reverse crossbows. My tenpoint Horton crossbow with Acudraw is right at 360fps. Fast enough.

I would imagine cocking/shooting these types of crossbows puts a lot of stress on the strings/cables for sure. One thing that many never mention is the stress from leaving them cocked for hours when hunting with them. The speed is great, but something has to give @ some point...

Guys,
360 fps in the present day crossbow world is not really all that “fast”. Most folks are opting for at least 400 fps.
I’m happy with my two bows that are 350 (Stealth SS)and 370 (Horton Storm RDX).
Genesis, I sent you a pm ..

Any update on what went wrong or a fix ? Not yet. To avoid the cost of mailing it back, I called a local-ish ten point repairman. Unfortunately, he said won't be able to fix it until he sees it in person then he'll probably have to order a new part. He also told me that ten point does not cover shipping or labor in their warranty. I'm trying to find a box that the crossbow will fit into. Then I'll probably just ship it to David. Although I did take the acudraw apart at David's instructions, the other dealer told me that if I tell ten point that, they'll void the warranty as I'm not a certified repairman. So, it's probably best to just eat the shipping and mail it to him.

On the other hand, since you followed David's instructions and it caused a failure, I'm sure that he will make it right.

David asked me what the demensions of my shipping container is. I told him. He sent another email stating that he is working on something with tenpoint for me.
I truly think David is trying to work with me here. We shall see.
