^^^ He's changed a LOT since June or July when he started. I bet he's lost close to 20% of the weight he was carrying earlier this year.
I'm following the same diet, although not as strict as he is. Basically it's a KETO diet, without the low carb veggies and as little grams sugar as you can tolerate - 0 is best. My goal was to drop a pound a week this year, and I may make it if I start to do some exercise or get more strict about the sugar/carbs. When I went to Wi for our annual deer hunt I didn't pay attention to what I ate and in the 6 days I was gone I put on 6#. I was able to stay the same weight over Thanksgiving and got back with the program after that. I have dropped those 6# since 11/25 plus as of this morning another 3# and while I haven't been keeping my grams of sugar where it should be I still lost the weight by cutting the carbs. Now it's time to get serious to meet my goal for the year. Next year if I drop 1/2 pound per week for the year I will be back to where I was in College.
A customer has heart issues (1, maybe 2 heart attacks and 7 stents) and when his brother died of obesity he became the last surviving family member. After his first heart attack in his late 40's he quit smoking and put on 80#. He just turned 60 this year. He jumped on the KETO diet and was VERY strict about it. Going a minimum of 12 hours between eating, staying below 6 grams of carbs and sugars per day, not eating anything with artificial sweeteners in it too. In a year he dropped 100#, and the following year he dropped another 25 or 30 pounds. Now 5 years later he's still sticking with that eating plan although he's able to eat more carbs now, and he's still keeping the weight off. IIRC now he's around 210# and he's 6' or 6'-1".
I agree with Deadeer. That eating plan isn't for everyone, but it does work if you stick with it. You just have to be sensible about it and keep in touch with your Doctor if you decide to do it. I have found out now after being on this eating plan that eating things that are bad for me REALLY show up in how I feel later that day or the next day. Especially sugar or artificial sweeteners. I didn't switch overnight, I worked into doing it over a 2-3 week period.
