That’s awesome! Congrats to Luke and dad. The ole double hat killa. Hoping for the "double hat trick" by catching a trout/salmon later today!

I’m currently sitting watching our creek bottom with my daughter in the blind with me and my son and nephew right next to us against a big tree. She’s the only one with a gun, but they all wanted to hunt together. If anything it’s a great experience and more memories for the family.

I have great memories of our neighbor taking me hunting when I was 12 or 13yo. It was an awesome experience, and thought this guy was magic when he warmed up a can of chilli on the exhaust manifold of the car!

Got her all broke down and in the freezer. Now he wants to try again! I may not have to hunt this year if he keeps that up. 😎

Can finally post a pic of the crew ready to head down to the creek bottom. They really wanted the face paint, so I joined in as well. Don’t know that this will ever happen again as the kids get older, so I loved and enjoyed every minute of it. Only deer we saw was as we walked back up to the house.

Preparing for the morning hunt. Allen's last youth hunt before turning 18 this winter. Good luck this morning all!

We sat out this morning due to the increasing wind and rain. Caught up on some needed sleep.
Good luck to all the young hunters today!

After seeing the one deer up by the house on our way in last night my daughter decided to rough it this evening and just sit on the deck and see what happens. I have seen a doe and two fawns right out back about six times in the past two weeks. She’s ready to roll.

Allen was fortunate to tag a doe around 9am today. We had some rain come in on us while field dressing. But all in all some very nice weather. We got her tagged and back home by lunchtime. Stripped, de-boned and chilling in a tote in the garage fridge for processing in a few days. Put some grating in the bottom of the tote so the meat can drain. This doe wasn't an old deer but it had the most fat I've seen on one in a long time! Congratulations to all the other youth hunters and mentors this weekend! Even if you didn't place a tag on one. Sharing that time in the outdoors is still a win!!

Congrats Allen! Great job!
That is a fatty. On the flip side, Lukes deer was super lean, barely a white film on her back. We are up in the NW corner of the state too.

Just finished most of the processing on Al's deer tonight. Cut the meat to grind into 4 to 5lb bags of trim. About 25 lbs to do with another deer later in the season. About another 25 lbs of roasts, chops and tenderloin steaks. Took a while to cut all of that fat off!
