Out of the blue last year I had turkeys show up I’ve seen a few now and then over the last years but it was rare Last year I had three hens and a bunch of chicks following them all summer fall but they disappeared over winter this spring I had a flock 23 total come and stay here I see them about every day in my yard and they drink out of the pond
My question is what could I plant yet this fall for them I have clover out for deer and sunflowers for doves and they seem to love the bugs in it and they also love the mulch around my trees man can they tear that stuff up or habitat I could improve Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated Dave

I’d say plant some stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, etc. they seem to always want to be around all that stuff, especially around the end of November.

Everything thing I’ve read seems like that’s more of a south growing plant They do spend a lot of time in the clover patch by my house but it’s full of bugs grasshoppers I’m just trying to keep them around yes I’d liked to put one on ice but right now I’d really like to see the flock grow to 30 40 next spring I’ve hunted here forever and never really had a chance at a turkey it’s like Christmas to me right now

I second a feeder, they love mixed bird food. As far as what to plant they like clover as well. I killed many a turkey with clover in thier crop !

I disked some poorly germinating winter wheat and re-seeded with cereal rye yesterday. The turkeys were in the food plot not 20 minutes after I finished. They were using the food plot even with the green winter wheat popping up. Cereal Rye will germinate all the way down to 38°F soil temp is what I read.
