Pay a pro with a bee suit. They could kill you. I've been chased by yellowjackets and stung it is no bueno I can't afford it or I would. I would try to find a professional to take care of this. If that's just not possible, I looked on Amazon and found several different bee suits, one as low as $25.00. There are a couple of guys on this forum who are into bee keeping and could likely advise you as to whether this suit would protect you or not against hornets and/or advise you as to what type suit you would need. Either way, paying a professional or buying a proper suit and doing it yourself has got to be way cheaper than ending up in the emergency room with a bunch of hornet stings.

The problem is solved. I thought of a guy that lives North of here that's had bee hives for decades and he came over and sprayed it and cut it down and took it home. He said he had 7 others hanging in his barn. Thanks for all the suggestions.

That's the correct way. Usually you can spray and spray and spray some more. Until you actually get rid of the nest they usually just reproduce more in no time.
I still would guess by the size it's been there all summer and just not noticed. Usually they are not super aggressive till you disturb their nest.

But I don't see how I could've mowed under it without my head hitting it or have noticed it. I've walked right past it several times a day and mowed right under it all summer. It's only 10 yards from the back door and only about 5 feet off the ground, I'm 5'7". I've even looked up in the tree all summer because a mourning dove had her nest right on the left side of the limb the hornets nest was fastened too. She was there until sometime in late June or early July. I'd about guarantee it hasn't been there long. There's still several on the limb going up from where it was, they look like they may be building another nest. I'll give it a couple of days and spray any remaining ones.

Did it have wheels on it? Maybe they moved it from the local Hornet Trailer Park? They might have been evicted from their last place. They have been known to be party insects that get behind in their lot rental.
Or it could be one of those prefab hornet nests from the factory.

Wait until good and dark and blow a good dose of Sevin dust up that hole and run. Wait a couple days and everything in there will be dead.

The remaining hornets are starting to build the nest again, it's time to get mean and nasty with 'em.

I'm about to give them an eviction notice they'll never forget....or remember for that matter.....no relocation either!!!!!!

Just for giggles. Ask Googles how long does it take hornets to build a nest. Cause we all know she doesn't lie...

Ask Googles??? Who's that??? I did look it up on Google and went to a couple sites, about 3 weeks is what 1 said. It didn't say on the others. I guess it depends on how many workers there are and how big the nest is I'd assume.

I have a friend that has them lined across the wall in his garage also.

Do you think it could have went 3 weeks unnoticed? No,I just mowed there last week. I doubt it could go a week without me noticing it,with where it was,how low it was and as close to it as I get on a daily basis.

Ir sounds like a good idea but a little risky for me since it's within a few feet of my 500 gallon propane tank.
