Hello all, Does anyone here have a source or could be a source for 8-10 quail/week for the fall?
I'm picking up another setter pup and would like to get on it soon.
I don't have a pigeon house, but it's in the future works..

I don't know, but I'd sure love to find a source for pigeons. I will be taking an ad out in the local Amish paper soon if I don't find any. I could go thru up to 25 or so a week.

My trainer is in Iowa and has hundreds. My future in laws have 6-8 homers themselves. I'd love to start a homer house, but it's too late and I don't have the property for it yet.

There'e a guy, Junior I think is his name; used to e president of the club that raises several thousand quail per yr for NSTRA trials that are run there and at Glenns Valley Conservation club outside Mooresville. try this email for info, michealwayne@att.net. Mike Wayne, I believe he's one of the officrs at the Amo Club. Steve

If either of you guys want to start a loft for homers I will be glad to supply you with birds to start out. I have two lofts and keep around 30 to 40. they produce more than I have room for so end up breaking eggs. link20210710_160809 by steve bowman, on Flickr

Homers would be nice, but they are too pricey for me because if the dog does what it's supposed to do the birds are shot for the dog to retrieve. Let me get some projects off the "To Do" list and I'll start a loft and flight pen. I need a place to keep the rock pigeons anyway.

boman, do you have a link to a loft buildin plan that you recommend? try this link. click on the link in the first post Red Rose Plans Looks like a good starter loft for about 12 to 16 birds. I built my own using some ideas I got from just reading about how to keep pigeons and what they need. also wanted to keep maintence as low as possible. A small backyard minibarn will work and you don't need a "flight pen but they like to come outside so a wire aviary is nice like I have on my lofts. I let mine out to exercise most evenings this time of year but once the leaves are off they arn't let out due to the hawks.
