Yup. The cool part is…..is there have been a ton of jakes this year so knowing they will be next years Tom’s makes things better for me.

My last 3 trips out have been silent. I saw one hen today but no gobbles. Rough year for me. I'm throwing in the towel. Maybe one will walk by me during deer season 🤞

I think I’ve had a good run of over 20 years of killing a gobbler. That is coming to an end this season.
The first three days I never carried a gun. It was all my grandsons hunt. He missed his long beard at 53 yards when it turned to move away from us. Even with the miss, it was worth it.
The wife’s Covid stepped in after that and I missed a week. I did manage to get out a couple times but didn’t have anything close.
That’s hunting for you..

I hope the Mrs. is still improving.

No big deal Genesis.. I would have liked my grandson to get a Longbeard, but me making a kill is not all that important anymore.
The wife is doing just fine. Still tested positive yesterday but according to the present CDC guidelines she is way past being infectious. She never did have any fever. Just a runny nose, a cough and fatigue. She has been symptom free for over a week now. I never did test positive. I do take a bunch of vitamins and zinc to shore up my immune system so maybe that kept it at bay?
Erring on the side of precaution we are sitting out one more Church service this Sunday.
Thanks

I tried one last time this morning. Started out with hitting a deer in our two year old car to start out the morning. About ten minutes away from my spot and it bent that deer at a 90’degree angle. Hit her with the front right side and she bent in the middle and her head slammed the passenger side pretty good. Hate having to claim on insurance, but can’t let that damage go without work. The deer ended up running away after she laid what looked like nearly dead for five minutes. Ended up on the same gobbler as last weekend and thought I had set up good. This time he did a 180 degree half circle the opposite direction as Sunday and I could ne we get in front of him again. Set up four different times and was really close a couple of those, even knowing he couldn’t see me, and he always ended up going away from me each time. All is good though, it was a fun season and the turkeys win this one. Good for them.

Definitely acting crazy this year. Seen gobbler I've been hunting fly down. Went about 50 yards and flew up in tree hens was in. Pushed her down and flew down after her. Immediately bred her. 45 minutes after they flew down, another hen flew down same spot. He bred her. Both hens came up the hill and passed within 15 yards of me. He comes following in full strut. Gets 25 yards and obviously seen me. Walked around a bit and went back down the hill to about 50. Stayed there gobbling for about 2 hours. He kept working towards me and back away. Hen must have came in because he gobbled a couple times farther away. Got up and left. Good news. No jakes today. Trying to decide if I want to set up where he flew down the last couple days tomorrow Well, what’s the report for today if you went after him again? Sorry late responding. I did go after him the next day. Went in the same spot but snuck in extra early. Figured I'd find where I sat the day before because I knew exactly where he was going to fly down. I didn't want to set up where he'd land when he flew down. Just can't bring myself to shoot one that I don't call in. I have silly self based rules for killing them but it's what I enjoy. Anyway got to the top of the ridge and for the life of me couldn't find where I set up the day before. Figured I could estimate and be good. Slowly worked my way down to where I figured he'd be at least 50+ yards away when he flew down. I have a 20 yard max I'll shoot them so that give me 30+/- yards to play with. Still pitch dark but set up where I estimated I'd be good. Long about first light when I could see I realized I screwed up big time. I was literally on the x. Got good light and still no gobbling but I was really doing battle in my head over whether I'd shoot him if he was there and dropped down. Threw out a real soft tree purr and bird hammered about 100 yards away. Hugh sigh of relief. Threw a couple more soft purrs at him and he gobbled right back. Heard him fly down so I immediately hit him with a fast cutt. He gobbled right back but...about 20 yards from me to the left I was hit with a loud gobble. I knew immediately it was the original bird by his gobble. Slowly turned my head and I could see him in his roost tree. At that point I knew I was done. He didn't see me at all. The first bird was still gobbling. Figured I had about 15 minutes to make something happen so I just let loose trying to fire the other bird up enough to maybe get him to come my way. Oh he gobbled and gobbled all while working his way to the field along with several hens clucking all the way with him. The original bird was still in his tree 20 yards away just blowing up the woods gobbling. The last I heard the original bird he was 100 plus yards away so I knew he was done for the day. Bird two was still in his tree and threw a cutt at him real quick and he just hammered back just ear splitting. At that point I stood up and walked away. Somehow he never seen me and gobbled at me walking away in the leaves the whole way. So some will say I'm dumb for not killing him. Some will say pop him out of the tree. It's just not me. First year in well over 20 I haven't killed a bird or called multiple in for others. I do it for me. Still had an awesome year. Took my buddy duff out for the first time and I'd imagine the last. The man just ain't a turkey hunter. Took my wife out several times. She seen her first stutter and heard her first gobble off a wild bird. She got to experience a mature longbeard gobble in her face at 40 yards. Seen what the term "a dumb jake" means. I've had numerous kill opportunities. 1 longbeard at 40. The one I was hunting also at 40 one day, another day at 25 and another at 20 but in the tree. 20 is my max ill shoot one. I ended one day with longbeard twice and 13 different jakes and 2 hens all within shooting range. Did battle with them jakes all year. All this on a 23 acre public land spot. Not a day I went out without a legal bird within range except the first two days of the season. I'd have to blame my hunting partner. All in all a weird season as the are still with the hens all day. Going to be a heck of year next year but I believe we are in for a struggle on many areas. Insane amount of hens around many areas that's going to hamper gobbling on the ground but around my area the jakes numbers are threw the roof. May off set each other. Regardless I went birdless but had a blast this year and already planning trips for next.

Not nearly as vocal today as they were yesterday. Had a Tom gobble two times a few hundred yards away. Gave him some light yelps and he shut up, still hasn’t shown himself. These late season birds are aggravating

Work was crazy this turkey season, yesterday could have been Friday the 13th for all the stuff that went wrong. I didn't even hunt this turkey season, I pulled the trail cam cards, only 2 legged trespassers and hens on the cam, so I didn't go out this morning.

Well I finally got my Michigan bird. 25 lbs, 10 inch beard, and 1.5 inch spurs. A great way to finish up the season. Managed to call him in at noon.
