Never know. It happened to us last year when she got her bird. He was literally like boom!!! Right there in front of us molesting one of my dekes. She had to save my dekes integrity. Never saw him slip up to them.

Been an exciting morning so far. Parked on private but decided to chase some public birds. Don’t know how many was in the group but there was a lot. They’d all gobble after each other and it sounded like 20 of them. Finally walked and crawled within their bubble and they really started responding. I got the hen fired up and they were going nuts. Then I went silent on them and they couldn’t take it any more. I told my son the hen would probably be first and she was with a gobbler behind her. He didn’t take a shot because they were too close together. Then the hen saw something she didn’t like and with a couple putts she and the boys were gone. I never did see them, but boy was it exciting to watch unfold. So close to his first spring gobbler. I told him these big woods gobblers are stubborn and will work us to death. A great experience for us both though. Now walked back to private and had 7 turkeys with two being strutters in a field, but they moved to the woods now.

We had at least 5 different birds gobbling in different directions while on the roost this morning, but we couldn't entice any of them to come in to us. One did come within 50 yards probably, but wouldn't crest the hill between us.
We're done until tomorrow.

All those field birds wandered into the woods. About ten a gobbler sounds off and is just strutting away on the edge of the field. Took about 20 minutes of enticing, but he made his way to the decoys. Just wouldn’t commit to them. Guessing he didn’t like the jake decoy. Knowing he wasn’t coming any closer my son took a shot, but didn’t connect. One of the best turkey mornings I’ve ever had in the woods and we didn’t even kill. Just glad he got to experience all that happened.

Really windy here today. Didn't hear any gobbles, but did have 3 hens come past. My daughter got a little practice aiming at least, figuring out how to move in the blind for different shooting positions. I think she's planning on hunting again next weekend.

Well my cousins son rylen and I got setup early Saturday on a new property. We were setup in a small wooded creek bottom with about a 500-600 yard long field next to it on the neighbors. The neighbors field usually has anywhere from 2-10 turkeys in it and so we were hoping to pull them off the neighbors field or catch them slipping through the wood lot to the field. We had good gobbling all morning long but nothing got close. About 9, a bearded hen came through and I gave him the choice of shooting or letting her walk and he decided he wanted to shoot. As I was trying to help him get in position, she decided she thought something wasn’t right and started to skirt the edge of us. I was trying to whisper to him to wait and I was too late. He touched off a shot and she took off putting and then flew. Clean miss. I didn’t want to yell to get his attention but I guess I should’ve been a little louder or maybe tapped his shoulder. We talked it over and I let him know it happens but we definitely want to keep it under 35 yards with a 20 gauge. Took a break around 11 for lunch and then came back about 330 and he’s passed out asleep by 345. I made one soft series of calls & nothing. He wakes up for a few mins and asks if he missed anything and I said nope. Back to sleep he goes. I’m just playing solitaire and I hear spitting and drumming. Look up and there’s a Tom heading straight for the decoys. I wake up rylen and grab his gun and tell him we have a Tom in front of us and to put the bead on his head. Bird comes to 20 yards and stops and I cluck at him to raise his head and rylen rolls him. 24 lb Tom with 1.2 in and 1.25 in spurs and 10 inch beard. He is hooked!

A little Thursday morning scouting let me know there was a nice bird on a spot that I have permission to hunt. Friday evening, he was getting ready to go to roost when he finally showed himself. Saturday morning at 4:30 my son and 12 year old granddaughter arrived ready to hunt. We hit the woods, put out a couple decoys and waited for the action to start. After a few minutes he cut loose with a series of gobbles right where I hoped he would be and shortly he was on the ground. One of the hens that was roosted nearby saw the decoys and tried to lead him away but he was too busy strutting, drumming, and showing off. When he finally saw the hen was leaving he had wandered too close to my granddaughter's 20 gauge, she made a good shot and a nice 2 year gobbler, her first, went home with us.
