Every spring I get ducks that land on my pond this morning I’ve got 22 of them they may stay a day or a week sometimes it’s 2 or 3 weeks, I almost always have 4 to 6 that stay here 2 weeks or longer.
I must be a resting waiting area for them before they fly north more not sure what kind they are they seem to be eating weeds off the bottom of the pond they dive under and pop up a few feet away. I’ve tried to get closer to get a photo but they bust out of here the second they see me but 3 or 4 hours later they come back

It’s funny, but I normally see more ducks, and more uncommon ducks in the spring by far. Last weekend, I saw a bunch on a pond south of Culver, not sure what all they were at 60 MPH. But I know I don’t see them in November-December. A friend said there were canvasbacks on that pond, but I’m a shoot first - identify it later kind of guy. Who knows.

Always seems to be late winter/early spring when I see the most waterfowl. Hardly ever see any good numbers during season.

I really, really like the can that I have on the .22LR that I put together to specifically shoot the Aguilar 60g Sub Sonic bullets. The only real noise that it makes is the bullet hitting the water. That is WAY louder than the gun.

Spring migration is always much better than fall. The males are full plummed and the trip north seems more concentrated.

I thought they only molted once a year. Not always completely. Teal and shovelers are notoriously poorly feathered unless you get them late.

Starting to hear some Canadians but no ducks yet. I got 4 new duck boxes that I need to get out this week around my ponds.

Old shootsa410 missed a flock by Summit lake 10+ years ago. Lots of specklebelly geese using western Indiana and hear of a few around Indy every so often. If they are white with black wing tips they are snows. Other white birds are bigger and they would be swans or pelicans. There have been a lot of white pelicans in the area recently

They are snows I got a good look at them tonight I just happened to come home earlier today to drop a trailer and seen them on the pond. I honestly don’t ever remember seeing them around here but I’m not a big waterfowl hunter either, snows are one of the few I’ve hunted went out by mound city I believe is the name it’s a big flyway stop over for ducks geese swans. They tell me at any given time that over a million birds could be resting there during migration it’s something to see we drove around the area looking at them.

I hunted near Carlisle Lake in south central IL. Each time I had never seen as many geese.
