Today was my last chance to get after the geese for this season and it was a great ending. I decided I would just pitch a couple decoys off the bank in front of the blind that I could retrieve with an extended gaff pole.
The wind was wrong for my blind but I had no other choice.
I had a group of Tundra Swans that took an interest in my dog so I had some great confidence decoys.
10 mins after I got in the blind a single tried sneaking in from behind but I saw my dog turn and look up it gave me a perfect 12:OO shot and with one load I was on the board.
A few mins later two geese came directly at me from out front and once again with one shot we had another one down.
The morning flight ended I stayed another hour and called it a season.
2 shots, 2 dead geese, 1 happy dog and one happy hunter.

The goose on the left was the toughest goose I have ever cleaned, it had an old lead buckshot pellet embedded in its leg.

Good shooting!!!
There was a flock of maybe 500 geese in the NW field just West of 8 and 23 the other evening, not 75 feet from 8.

Well Done! That's a lot of open water for LaPorte Co. this time of year. I am blessed to own pond that has open water almost all winter, I built it this way so I can enjoy open water all year long. Makes for great late season waterfowling when there are birds here to hunt.

Good job. Those successful hunts when you were just expecting to be out are good ones that keep you coming back.
The blanks when you expect limits hurt.

The goose on the left was the toughest goose I have ever cleaned, it had an old lead buckshot pellet embedded in its leg. I wonder just how old it was? I heard they will live up to 24 years old. Since they migrate, is it still legal in Canada to use lead shot for waterfowl?

Ended up feeling well enough (fought pneumonia for close to a month) to get out Saturday with my father and my son. Three generations in the blind. Ended the season with 7 geese from the river.
