If you are a dog owner please get a collar with a riveted tag with a name, address and current telephone number preferably your cell phone number.
Today I found a Golden Retriever and a Black Lab hanging around my pond, I was able to locate the owner by making phone calls to my neighbors. Neither of the dogs were collared or as I found out later chipped.
In La Porte county if your dog is located by someone and taken to the small animal shelter the owner will pay a $25.00 recovery fee plus a $10.00 a day boarding fee. In addition you must show proof of current vaccinations and chipping of the animal.
Some advise if your going to put a collar on your dog don't hang tags with their identifiers on them because these can easily get lost or worse yet hung up on something where the animal can't get loose. In addition if your going to put a collar on them make it a bright collar such as Hunter Safety Orange not camo colored so they can be seen much better. Cabela's and Bass Pro offer real nice vinyl coated collars that will dry quickly and have a brass tag riveted to the collar which both will last for a very long time.

Good advice. My dogs have always worn collars with a riveted nametag. I have always got mine fron Steve Schell at Gundogsupply.com 20211129_162006 by steve bowman, on Flickr

One thing I learned about the orange fabric collars. They will leach out the coloring when they get wet, and the white fur will be orange/pink for a while around the collar. They only stay orange for about a year or two, then they fade out pretty well.
Make sure the collar is also the "break-away" type too. Don't want the dog to get hung up by the collar.
Bowman, is the dog on the right a Springer? What's the dog on the left?

Esshup, The dog on the left is Zoey, my 20lb "pocket rocket" aka a thoroughbred 2yr old English Cocker. The dog on the right is my hunting partners 1 1/2 yr old 42lb Small Munsterlander, Maverick. That picture was taken back in November in Warren County(wild birds).
