Hi All, I am meeting with a DNR Biologist this Friday. I am putiing about 8 acres in the Songbird and Gamebird habitat program. Also adding some cover for deer and a food plot for them as well. There is some reimbursment with this too so that is a plus. Just wondering if anyone has enrolled in this program before? Thoughts on it? I have about 300 acres of solid game habitat around me so that is a plus. Here is more info on it in case you want some background: www.in.gov/dnr/fish-and-wildlife/landowner-and-wildlife-habitat-assistance/

I'll share from the assessment side of things, if no agricultural qualifying use under assessment laws are occurring on the land previously, once you have the plan in place be sure to provide a copy of it all to your county assessor. This plan would qualify at minimum the 8 acres be valued at the lower agricultural land rates in Indiana.

Thanks for the heads up. I am a little familiar with that on my old property as we used it for ag mainly. Really looking forward to getting some habitat planted out there for all wildlife. I have checked out your facebook page and videos. I really like what you do!

I met with the DEN and we put a plan together. Looking at Native grasses and some about a 1.5 acre food plot for deer. Going to try some roundup ready neans for the first year to control the grasses and get it going.

Unless things have changed, in Indiana if you put 15 acres or more into wildlife habitat, you can declare it and it becomes tax free acreage. You will pay a small annual registration fee BUT remember it has stipulations.
