I'm going to ask a dumb question... How did the young man purchase a resident Indiana hunting license if he didn't have a valid Indiana driver's license? Can a person say they have been a resident for 60 days and qualify as a resident @ that point OR can you provide proof of payment for say a utility bill for the required 60 days and qualify as a resident @ that point? I'm confused as to what the process is. If you have a printer you can purchase your license online from your home.

Mine is, so yes I print mine out every year too.

I've bought licenses (the legal way) online for over a dozen states. It's pretty much honor system unless the state initiates an investigation. It's pretty easy to lie on an online form.

I would have thought that every online purchase throughout the country would require a valid driver's license or state I.D. to be required for that transaction so as to keep people from buying resident licenses instead of non-resident licenses. If it isn't, that makes zero sense to me and I can't imagine how many people are technically poaching in those states. It'll be interesting to see what comes of the Greensburg Buck. Will the hunter prove residency and get the buck back or will the state keep the buck and charge him with a hunting violation.

It's pretty common for people to move from out of state to wait till license expires to get IN license , some companies give 30 days some 60 etc. Greg posted IC above on who is considered a IN resident. Must reside in Indiana for 60 days prior. Drivers license is not a requirement and a mute point.

I get what you guys are saying, but the simple fix to this situation is that to obtain a resident hunting license, you must have a valid Indiana Driver's license or state I.D. or have other proof of residency that the state requires. As for people waiting until their current out of state license expires, I hardly think $17.50 is that big of a deal for someone moving to the state.

Don't you have to sign the license stating your information is correct and your residence status is correct? Maybe that's just in Indiana.

I think it will boil down to intent. Per a interview he gave to magazine after harvest saying he moved to Nashville 8 years ago to pursue music career but came back each fall to deer hunt. Now when covid hit it literally shut down Nashville so did he move back home?? Possibly as he has been here a lot. Be interesting to see what license he used in past 8 years. IF resident , not gonna end well. IF non resident prior and resident this year I can see it working out. Again all speculation and really hope it works out.

I'm not sure what punishment is for not having proper license? Neighbor from Ohio got 3 citations few years back for not having license. Non resident landowner. Got citations but got to keep deer? So who knows.

So who knows. If that happens and he pleas to a ticket and I believe it may end like that.... Keeps Deer and moves on! It won't go in any books or be recognized as a record! IMO I could be wrong .... we shall see!

Did he buy a resident hunting license in TN this year? If so he will probably be cited. I've lived in multiple states for over a year but kept my residency here(never changed driver's license and had bills sent here) and always bought out of state licenses for where I was living even though I technically met the requirements.

As far as driver's license number, you don't have to have a driver's license to hunt. I buy my kids licenses to build points, but they don't have any state issued photo IDs.

What state did he claim residence in when he filed his taxes? Up till COVID hitting he was living in Nashville fulltime but after been back here for most part, is my understanding. (Currently he is living in Decatur County.) Taxes are filed in April for prior year so he could have easily moved back to Indiana and met the 60 day residency requirement. I am going to assume he is innocent of no wrongdoing until it is proven otherwise.

I have no opinion on the guy either way. That being said,he knew what state he was a resident of when he bought his license. There is no "grey area". It should be extremely easy to prove guilt or innocence in this case.

To many on here already have him as guilty and don't know any facts, just rumors from the arm chair quarterbacks. That's the biggest problem with society today, everyone gets their facts from everything but the source.

No one is saying he is guilty of anything. There is a big disparity in license $ between resident and non and that bothers me as our state uses that money. Otherwise, I could care less.

I think most on here are giving him the benefit of the doubt and hoping it works out for him.
Most on here are fair minded and will wait until the real facts come out and then make their own decisions
