…..got me.
I went up to do a mock scrape on my food plot rubbing pole. When I walked out into the food plot I was astounded. Not a blade of oats, rye or buckwheat.
I talked to Woodmaster and a buddy he works with says that he’d bet it was Army Worms. I went back and looked at some trail camera pictures around the 15th of September and we had a decent stand of oats and rye.
Thank goodness the Army Worms didn’t eat the turnips and radishes too. They evidently don’t like them.
It is what it is…but this is a first for us. We’ve had oats knee high before.
The question now is - We don’t want a yearly repeat so what can we do to kill these suckers before they start?

I’d say send in the Marines.

My sod supplier has been in business for over 20 years and said this year is a first for him with the worms. I'm not going to worry about them much going forward.

I was told that they are always around , but seem to get out of hand when we get a lot of rain in August.
