Should I use bore butter with sabots? Should I lube my Sabots? T/C's All Natural Lube 1000 Plus Bore Butter was designed as a lube to be used with traditional patched round balls (lube the patches) and all lead conical bullets like our Maxi-Ball and Maxi-Hunters. If you are shooting sabots, DO NOT LUBE YOUR SABOTS.

If you are shooting a 50 caliber muzzleloader, then the wad would be 50 caliber and the sabot 45 caliber. The wad engages the rifling. You do not need any type of lubricant to load a sabot. You will need a strong ram rod and maybe a some type cushion, to help push the ram rod down. Depending on your set up, black powder is very corrosive. If you will be hunting everyday with the rifle, you can sorta leave a charge in it, just pull primer or cap. However, if you are using it in rain and didnt cover muzzle up with a rubber or scotch tape and moisture got down that barrel then you need to fire it and reload. Whats your set up ?

That way I know there won't be any issues with rust when I get it out the following season or in my case the past tens years its been sitting in my safe. But I do use bore butter with the maxi balls but not sabots.

If you are talking about "seasoning" your bore just mix some Tony Sacherie's (sp) seasoning in with your powder and shoot it that way, it will do as much good. Bore butter, Wonderlube and similar products are just some mix of wax and lube. As stated use them with patched round ball or bare lead bullets. A range rod is a really nice accessory to have for shooting and cleaning. I took my short starter and drilled a hole in it that fits my ramrod. I use it to be sure the ball is fully seated. Use you field ramrod in short strokes to push the round down. Maybe 8 to 10 inches a stroke.

I use bore butter in my patched round ball guns. Use it on my patches and to coat the bore after cleaning.I still have a tube that I bought in the late 1980s.
As others have said; it is not needed with sabots.

I have a cva wolf and want to try the federal 270 gn bor lok bullets out of it. Probably going to run triple 7 pellets at 100gn equivalent . Just wasnt sure if I should lube the barrel before I load it or lube the back end of the bullet or how that works.

I would use a little on the sides of plastic and go from there … not much! Should load easier also doing that from my experience.

My advice is to skip bore butter altogether, unless you're shooting patched balls or a maxiball style bullet.
I shoot BH 209, and I clean with typical solvents like Hoppes #9. Prior to loading for hunting, I swab the bore with rubbing alcohol, then a dry patch. I flush the BP with something like Remington action scrubber, then make sure the flash hole is clear, then dry it with a shot of air. Then load.
To store the gun, I clean it and then run a lightly oiled patch down the bore.

^^^ I agree, skip it completely if you are using a sabot, powerbelt, etc., just use it like you would lube cast bullets in a CF firearm - use it on patched balls or maxiball type bullets.
You want the plastic to "engrave" the rifling, so that the gun imparts a spin to your bullet.
You could try a lubed felt wad under the sabot, but nothing on the sabot itself.
