Boone, when u were getting ur seed from jeremy did he mention that lease to u in Medora bottoms? 750 leased for 26,000 by 3 guys. A third party leased it. I even asked 26,000 he said yes. Nuts!! Thats under $35 per acre, so the total sounds crazy but the per acre price isn't. That differently on the high end…. I don’t believe the group leasing the South end of Big Oaks pay that amount per acre! I could be wrong though.

We rent my neighbors adjoining property for $1500 for 80 acres in Switzerland county. I own 46 acres so we end up have 126 acres to hunt.

I understand the desire to make money by a landowner, and the desire to have a good place to hunt by a hunter. But paying a high price will most certainly put an end to my hunting. To each their own, and if that's what works for guys, kudos for their passion.

Some folks wouldn't hunt if leasing wasnt a option...
Some give up easily some don’t!

I've been part of a lease in the past and my experience wasn't good as it was difficult to keep trespassers off the property. If leasing was my only option, I don't know if I would still be hunting.
I'm blessed to have a friend who owns several smaller pieces of ground and I help him work on it from the time the season ends to the time it starts again. Without him I doubt I'd be hunting today.
When my friend sells out, I'll likely be finished with deer hunting and will sell off my "hunting junk" (as I call it), call it a day and enjoy the memories.

Some folks wouldn't hunt if leasing wasnt a option... Some give up easily some don’t! For sure. Some just have deeper pockets or willing to sacrifice other things to get there. I dont really have deep pockets and barely loose change nowadays, and surely dont have much to give up! Not complaining tho! I hate to see deer hunting turn into antler-mania. I still know guys that would never shoot a doe, or a smaller buck, and some that dont even eat venison, and that's fine. I would take my deer hunting time and parlay it into small game and fishing if I quit. So it all evens out in the end.

I’ve killed some nice deer on public ground don’t give it up

I’d like to get on a lease for a few years down south I’ve looked into them. I’m not really interested in deer but turkey and hogs would be what I’d chase been trying to find one just to kill hogs only.
I know moms going to sell soon so I will lose that spot sad day for sure growing up I had a creek that I trapped and every neighbors ground as far as I could walk rabbits squirrels were all over deer not so much but I’d still go out lots of good memories

Honestly, if it wasn't for all the shows in the hunting entertainment industry, would deer hunting be the craziness we see these days?

It’s hard to tell I believe if you took a poll on here most guys were hunting before theses shows or someone like dad a uncle a neighbor got them into hunting not TV I do believe TV brought it to the forefront and increased sales and possibly kept more people in the sport

Actually I believe the internet and social media is the BIGGEST players....This site is a good example also. IMO The quest for antlers has grown the sport more then hurting it.

Back a few years ago when Interlake and Peabody auctioned off most of their land there were some good deals to be had. Old spoil bank ground was going for around 2500 per acre or less, but it has all pretty well be bought now.

Now days that reclaimed mine ground is going for 7,000 to 8,000 an acre.I owned some of that ground its almost worthless.

It's a goldmine for those that rabbit hunt. Everything else, yeah I'd have to agree
