I havent been out yet this year either and really haven't had much of a desire to. Partly because Im trying to be smart and not burn out the couple spots I have and partly because I have been fishing and squirrel hunting more. Id be lying if I said life hasnt been getting me down a bit more lately as well. Seems like I used to go to bed thinking about deer hunting and wake up thinking about deer hunting. Now I mostly just lay there worrying about the future, money, bills, college tuition etc etc. I really gotta quit doing that. Ive probably spent countless hours of my life worrying and fretting over things that never came to pass. But I digress. Once I get up in a tree and have deer in range the switch will flip and I will probably think only of deer hunting until January. I plan to take Monday and Tuesday of next week off and hunt a doe bedding area that has produced many times for me. So I got that going for me, which is nice.

I went out opening day. At 20 minutes after legal shooting time, I put a 100gr "Deadbeat"broadhead moving at 340fps through a decent size doe. That broadhead cut a 2" hole going in!
Massive blood loss did not stop her from running at least 100 yards into a freshly cut corn field. What a drag man...lol Picked her up from the processor last night. Had pepperjack summer sausage with jalepenos on crackers last night. Gnawing on some wonderful hot pepper jerky today.
Went out again this morning and I could have taken a buck at a whopping 25 feet, but he wasa "young buck", literally. Tall, lanky, not a bad size torso, but the rack was a sorry looking 4 point "fork". Main beams were only about 8-10" long with a small,2"- 2 prong fork on each side.
I could have taken him at any time I chose for a solid 5 minutes. He wandered off, and I hope to see him next year.

Thus post made me realize just how unprepared I really was this year. So I went out after work to place bow holders, pull ropes, and lifelines. I was a bit surprised by how much I was able to tighten up the ratchet straps with just hanging the stands a month ago.
I kept getting a whiff of death while driving through the trails and ended up finding the little 6 pointer I saw in velvet while taking stands in. He has what appears to be a large 2 blade broadhead hole on his left side. Couldn't turn him over to see if it was a pass through.

Been working on the house last few weeks since race season is over. House now has a new 12×20 porch out back. Been walking as much as possible for upcoming elk hunt in November. So I will be honest. Deer hunting hasn't really crossed my mind. But I hardly ever get serious about it till Halloween. Don't waste today worrying about tomorrow. All you are doing is wasting today on something you can not change tomorrow.

I'm more looking for the 23rd to Thanksgiving. I have 4 very good stand locations. 81 today and 70's to 80's to 23rd means no hunting for me. I think this is the best I've been prepared in a long time. I've had deer in my yard every day for the past month. Love acorn dropping season.

Too warm for me, too many family obligations, and not taking vacation until the 2nd week of November. If it cools down I'll go next Friday though.

I talked to the neighbors to the south thinking the 6yo might have shot it during youth season. He got a doe and his uncle got a doe opening weekend. I have to ask the west neighbors who they have hunting their pasture since it's the closest fence, and to let them know it is absolutely okay to blood trail on our side. My concern is it is the north neighbors. Their hunters keep driving through crops to set stands, they have a box blind 10 yards from and facing the property line, I know they have been squirrel hunting our side for the past several years but can't catch them, and 2 seasons ago we are convinced they bleached my brothers blind. I'm wondering if they found the deer and left it because of his size, but don't want to accuse. It is just as possible that someone simply lost him, but that hole is almost too perfect of a heart shot for him to have gone far unless the penetration sucked. The local Martian is going to come out and take a look around and I'm setting cameras to see if I can get some trespassing proof.

Been having a rash of bad and tough luck lately, and that has really kept me busy and scrambling. Crazy at work, a light injury, my mom crashing her car, her sick from covid, then her furnace and water heater, my truck, wifes truck, good lord, mercy help me!!!
I have to be a baby sitter at work, a dad to my boy, a husband to my wife, and the MAN in the family since both dads are gone.
Under a month till gun season now! Skurry season 2 months in, and I only been out a couple times and no success. Ready for this to turn around and get better!!!

I’m ready to go but it’s been hot and I made a run north again so my time has spent doing other stuff
In my younger days I hunted almost every second I could from start to finish of season. Now days I start about the last of October then hunt hard till the end of shotgun then it’s off and on till the end.
I really only have a few spots to hunt so I try and not burn them out plus with the two younger kids I take I seem to spend more time on them getting a deer I’ve killed enough deer so I’m happy with anything as long it fills the freezer I’d still like to kill a huge one but I like opening the freezer and seeing it full of snack sticks burgers blackstrap just as much

I have scouted less and practiced shooting my bow less this year than any year in recent memory. A little bit of it is the fact that I should get some does during gun season and it just seems that this year has been busier than normal for me.

I haven't been able to be as active on here or in the woods this year, unfortunately. We bought a house, sold our old one, upgrading the new one, put both boys into a new school....It's been a busy 2021! Hopefully getting back into the woods in the next couple weeks and of course won't be missing the first 2 weeks of November.

The cooler weather and an increase in deer sightings has definitely revived some lost interest. We built a blind yesterday for foul weather and when getting my boy out. I thawed out a bunch of venison and working on a batch of jerky today. So progress has been heading in the right direction finally.
