Seems like pretty much everybody I know has a very low interest in any kind of hunting this year so far. Is it the post pandemic blues, ammo shortage, watching the country implode due to idiots running it down so quickly, the weather, fast paced life, etc? This is my worst year of desire for hunting. Everybody at work is in same mode. What the heck?

I think everyone gets that way at times. I know I do. I don’t get too serious about it until later in October. It’s been warm and rainy so far. I also know we have fall break for a week in October that I won’t be hunting no matter what the weather is like. That starts tomorrow for us. The public hunting areas sure don’t show any lack of interest so far this year.

I don't get too excited for deer hunting period. Now I have no lack of desire for fishing. I am sure last week of October and 1st 2 weeks of November I will sit in the woods a day or two.

I've kinda been in a funk all summer. My hunting buddy has been working every day for months.
Kinda just wanted to keep it simple this year with no scouting and just hunting historical knowledge. I think the lack of prep work has delayed the excitement.
The injury preventing me from. Shooting my bow probably didn't help either.
I finally washed my clothes and am waiting for cooler Temps, I'm sure once I get out ill get excited again.

I tweaked my back pretty good a few days ago and I was a bit worried about when I could get into the woods. I haven't hunted archery in 8 years and buying this crossbow has gotten me really excited about hunting again. I was shooting my practice broad head this evening and I am strongly considering going in the morning. Everyone's interest has valleys and peaks at different times for sure.

Mine is dealing with trespassers and thrives, landowner issues at another spot and losing others…zaps the joy of it all.
However it will change and few more deep breaths from a stand will serve as a great reminder.

Good to see others enthusiasm!
I was not really referring to just the Oct lull, but more overall. I dont think any of my friends even picked up their bow or xbow yet.
I put a lot of effort into getting my boy out fishing this year. Probably losing my dad last year changed me alot. He wasnt a hunter, but big fisherman. It still just isnt the same.
I expect to slide more into the fishing interest as I get older as its easier than hunting for me. Hoping my boy will help keep me interested.

My lack of interest currently is simply weather. (TO HOT.) Not hunting in 70-80 degree weather. Older I have gotten the more I lean to only hunting when conditions are more in my favor than not. I pay more attention to wind , temps and fronts. Next weekend looks to be setting up nicely for deer movement and perfect wind direction for my food source stands.

Funny you say this...I just told the guys at work the other day I don’t know how much longer I’ll do this. It’s became more of a “job” to deer hunt than it is a hobby. I’m solely to blame for this because of the way I choose to hunt for bucks. I lost a 350+ acre farm right before season this year due to too many people being on it in which the owners didn’t know and trespassers cutting a fence on one side to ride dirt bikes and atv’s throughout the property. I’m allowed to check back next spring to see where they stand with allowing me to hunt again. (They know me and know I’m not the problem, but they shut it down to everyone supposedly....we’ll see!) They do have pictures of the trespassers and were going to get in contact with them.
Sometimes you just want to say the heck with it...I’m done trying.

It's becoming more the norm unfortunately. I have prime spots so that's not the issue for me. I wish you luck in however you want it to play out in the end. There is always small game hunting that's so much less pressure and relaxing compared to deer.

It just seems like life is a tornado. Just running 24/7/365 and not getting to enjoy anything. That parts my own fault. Hopefully it gets back to normal soon. I am sure by the end of this month my mood will change.

The older we get the faster times slips away.
As for the lack of desire, I'm definitely noticing the same with some of my hunting friends.

For me ammo and a little bit of BS Rona restriction in IL are the 2 things nagging at me. I am still really excited nut would really like to be able to do/have done more shooting. I have some good opportunities this year and wish I felt better about it.

No waning enthusiasm here. I just finished my second out of state hunt for the year. Scouted another hunt unit in Colorado, an area in Wyoming, and scouting my South Dakota deer unit in the morning. Haven't slept in a bed for over a week. All the while, wondering what's on the trail cams at home, are the acorns dropping, will we get this cold front coming up this weekend, etc.
I will say that my interest in about all other activities outside of my family and hunting have dropped off a cliff in the last 10 years.

I've only been out once on opening morning. That's the least amount of time ever for me. I've got a lot going on in my life right now and hunting has been put on hold. I'm hoping that changes soon

Deer have not been high on the list for me at all this year. Which is odd because the farm is covered up with them. I have been prepping a bunch toward waterfowl and hope to spend most of my hunt time there, but that's not even as big of a deal as it was the first time I jumped into it.
Its just weird seeing all the proverbial train wrecks happening all around us and feeling like there is no common sense to spare.

Yep, you can do yourself more harm than good getting to aggressive hunting at start of season. I've been out just a couple times and each time it was so warm and calm my scent was pooling and swirling and I got picked off by does.

Wouldn't mind shooting a doe or 2 but I do not process so not comfortable hanging overnight even in these temps. Forecast calling for big changes next Sat. so will just lay low until then.

Losing my private property last minute and no prep on public put a big dent in my enthusiasm. Weather hasn't been ideal either but I'm on my 2nd sit out at kop. However my will to be successful no matter where I'm hunting is strong so here I am sitting on a bean field surrounded by woods.
