So then how do you move the knot down? Your hand has to be on it to move it, so basically if you fall while moving the knot you’re just outta luck. Yes you have to put your hand on the knot to move it but that should be the only time your hand is on or above the knot. Take a step or two up or down, then while stationary, grab ahold of the knot and move it then remove your hand from the knot and take another step or two up or down. If you don't make a conscious effort to keep your hand off the knot, there is a good chance that during a slip and fall the last thing you will be thinking about is where your hand is. Exactly.. this isn’t a “you must not touch the knot” scenario. ALWAYS in a stationary position (3 points) I’ll push the knot up or down depending on whether I’m ascending or descending. I’m 82 and I don’t bounce as good as I used to but I don’t like hunting on the ground.

When using a climber your going to be having both hands on top portion of climber to go up or down thus never touching rope until stopped or needed. Just wanted to clear the air for those that only use one type of stand.

Nice tutorial on the prusik WW! That is about the same size loop I used to keep on me (before I started using the Treestand Wingman) when in a tree in case I fell on a lifeline. I could put that loop on the lifeline as a prusik and with the larger loop could fit my boot in it and between that prusik and the one attached to the harness, slowly work my way down the rope.

Span870 With my luck I'd cut the rope, fall and land on the knife... That's just the chance you take. The stab wound will take your mind off the bark burn on your chest on the plus side

It's way easier than waiting for fire department to get there. Anyone who's ever used a Baker climber will understand. Bear hug tree and cut the rope. Easy peasy. Down ya go. You'll also have a lifelong reminder. So, what 3rd hand am I supposed to use with the knife when I am bear hugging the tree? One arm that sucker all the way down

Good gravy, hunt off the ground if you are so dang afraid of falling. Inspect your equipment, maintain 3 points of contact while climbing and dont be stupid. Or fiddle fart with a static line but to each their own.

I already bought a dozen lifelines along with a new harness. This will be enough for all my stands and a couple extra. If you're still interested in getting rid of it, perhaps you can donate it to a local hunters Ed course!

About 12 years ago I was using my summit climber and the tree stand bottom bent down at a degree where it wouldn’t move, I was stuck in a tree at about 20-22 feet. I called my buddy who drove out to me and bought his climber, we hooked my equipment rope to his climber bottom and I used it to climb down after setting it up. Sent my bottom to Summit and they found that by climbing a tree larger than recommended, it put so much stress on the aluminum stand it bent. They sent me a brand new climber and now I do not set up on any tree where I have to use all my cable on. I had a safety harness on but if I fell I would just hang till help arrived. That’s when I bought a automatic descender. Luckily my buddy knew the woods I was hunting and found me quickly. He was at work and had to leave to help me so while I wasn’t in danger I just couldn’t leave till I had help.

Geez, who thought some discussion on hunter safety would ruffle feathers. You don't have to read the thread ya know. But, from a guy that's had the misfortune of falling, I appreciate the information and communication on this topic. But, like you said, to each your own.
