Was a great evening in the woods. For the first time out i didn"t forget any thing , got in and out of stand with out killing myself, got to see the sun shining thru the yellowing leaves of the trees. Had to smile and enjoy that view. Saw 4 does and 4 bucks,2 flocks of turkeys,8 and 6, the flock of 8 at 25 yds. Also got to see them fly up to roost all tho i could not see the acctial roost tree. Had a 3/4 grown coon walk by at 15 yds and stop and eat something then groom him self for a wile before leaving. I saw deer and turkeys and coon and turkeys at the same time in close approxsimity Watched one buck make a scrape and anotheri make a rub. Thought i was watching a Disney film for a wile. I also did something i have never dune before. I let a buck walk. It would have been a 10 yd shot broad side wide open. I know i do not have to give you my reason but i am any way. I have killed bucks opening morning of archery before. I am in a position where i do not NEED the meat. Each year i have gotten pictures of decent 8 and 10 points but having killed my alloted deer was not hunting at that time so i decided to pass. If i do not kill a buck later in the season i am ok with that but if that comes to pass i will not make the mistake of letting one walk again. I have stated before i am not a big horn hunter but but i just did not want to end my hunting season so soon this year. I may still take a small racked buck and will be just as happy as if it was a 10. I am looking forward to being in the woods the next couple weeks when the leaves turn to behold the beauty of the sunrises and sets. Onebentarrow Sounds like you had the best sit you could've asked for. It also sounds like you have a rock solid, focused mindset; something that most people don't have these days.

Vocal doe that was too far, had a 6 pointer working a tree at 15 yards and 10 minutes later a spike followed him.
Bailed when the thermals switched and checked a spot for tomorrow morning.
ETA: first of hunt of the year

Had 4 does at 5 yards, they walked just out of sight and ran back with a 8 point chasing. They all ran into the cut corn and came back 5 minutes later just about 50 yards away and then disappeared into the woods. No shooters but fun to watch.

Been busy finishing up work around farm and office. Oct. 28th is time to get serious with hunting time. Over last 44 years over 90% of my buck kills have been between Oct. 28th and Nov.28. With most coming from Nov.6th-20th time frame. Older I get the less I hunt in October saving my time and energy when odds are best.

I'm in a "no deer or dead deer" spot. Haven't been in this spot for a couple years .
The mowed path for rabbit hunters should in theory funnel deer right to me between thick woods and CRP. Hopefully they got the memo.

Tomorrow I'll be putting in my days off days. Thinking the 29th, 3-5, 8-10, 12, and 15th. Hunting all Saturdays and Sundays from 30th to 13th weekend, except evening of the 6th. The 11th is optional

I'm back where I hunted Saturday. I only saw some does/fawns and coons last time, but I feel good about this spot. Any shots I could be presented with here would be 30 yards or less, more likely 20.
I'm off work for the long weekend now, hoping to at least see some antlers in the next few days!

I saw a pretty decent buck tonight about 45 minutes before dark. I probably would have shot him if he'd given me an opportunity. He was whoopin' up on some wrist-sized trees about 40 yards away in the brush.

I almost had to come to a stop in the road this morning for a nice 10 pointer to cross.
I'm back where I saw the buck last night. First time I've hunted this spot in the morning, and had to wander around a little bit to find my tree. Got pretty sweaty. Hopefully that ground scent doesn't mess things up. I did find a small deadhead buck, probably from last year.

Well, skunked this morning. Came home, checked a few easy access cams, and had two shooters at one of my water holes during legal hours yesterday morning. I plan on going out here at my place tonight for the first hunt of the year.

Temps finally more seasonal. Crops coming down around us. Seeing more deer out and about now. This is my last weekend of stuff to do, then full blast starting next weekend.

Back out in the county park program here in Ohio. Hunting the property my daughter took her buck on 2 weeks ago. The other guys gave us the weekend again. Been seeing does consistently at this spot along with a really nice buck. Ryleigh is on doe patrol. Me, I'm game for a mature buck or any slick head. What was forecasted as spotty showers is a slow steady rain, so we set up a ground blind.
