I bet 110k tops. Most of my contacts are about giving up due to weather and poor sightings.

I bet 110k tops. Most of my contacts are about giving up due to weather and poor sightings. According to 2020 Deer Report 13,906 deer were killed during muzzy season. (So far little over 2200.) I suspect muzzy hunters will be close to last year's take. Majority are killed on the weekends and they have 2 weekends left. I think we will end up 117,000-118,000 area before its said and done.

Friday to Sunday here 25 to 35 mph winds. 23 degrees and kids outside playing at school here…. Elementary at that. Hunter’s need to toughen up it seems. Ha

I'm still going with 110k. Since I am done now, no sense in getting your hope's up of a record kill. I've done my part. 😉

All makes sense, doe quota is down and firearms is one of the earliest start dates.

The Buck Harvest looks to be on track for second highest in 5 years. Yep, About 500 behind last year and already topped the other years TOTAL seasons. Antlered buck kill is a lot better indicator of the health of the herd than total kills.

Antlered buck kill is a lot better indicator of the health of the herd than total kills. I agree 100%. Think most expected antlerless harvest to be down (lower bonus tags available, no qualifying late antlerless counties) Also I think some hunters are making effort to grow populations in home areas.

106,320 this a.m. Last year this date we were right at 112,000 it looks like. Down about 6,000 but most of that "down" is antlerless. Antlered bucks are only down about 1,500. This is from a banner year. Throwing out the anomaly (Covid) year of 2020 the antlerless take is in a steady declining trend and the buck take is in a steady upward trend.

Throwing out the anomaly (Covid) year of 2020 the antlerless take is in a steady declining trend and the buck take is in a steady upward trend. Which I've already seen a few thoughts take this and run two vastly different directions: ONE THOUGHT Antlerless harvests have been trending down because the IDNR are incompetent fools in managing the herd, especially antlerless - this is direct fallout from eliminating too many of them. A terrible sign. OTHER THOUGHT Antlerless harvests have been trending down because landowners and hunters have come together in areas to lesson their crosshairs on antlerless deer due to a variety of factors; herd numbers, EHD kill off or others and is a great sign.
