What broadheads are you using on your crossbows? I am also curious to hear your experiences on game with fixed blades vs expandables.

As I have said before on this subject, I have used both. The Excalibur bolt cutter fixed blade was a good Broadhead, I also tried the 150 grain Slick Trick, which was a good head. I never thought of trying a mechanical until my son suggested I try the 150 grain 3 inch Swhacker. The Swhacker is all I have used since,it is devastating on all I have shot with it.There are dozens of different broad heads and each have their following.Which ever you choose shot placement is the key to a quick and ethical recovery.Of course this is just my opinion and others will differ.

I use muzzy fixed 3 blade 1-1/8. I prefer pass thru verses big cuts that don't pass thru. I used rage for two years and throw then in the garbage. To me the Rage did a good job at entry and good blood at first, but 30 to 50 yards out I had the blood just stop. I found the buck and it was full of blood, but no lower exit hole per a pass thru. The Rage hit a rib bone and destroyed the Rage. Buck was walking away and put a few inches behind the shoulder. I will not shot mechanicals today. None fit my specifications.

I have not had a problem with complete pass-through on any critter that I have shot with the Swhacker, admittedly just deer and coyotes. One deer that I harvested last year I shot at 60 yards, not a shot that I would normally take but for some reason I felt confident. It was complete pass-through and cut two ribs deer recovered within 20 yards. Was it a fluke maybe, maybe not.Just relaying my experience not trying to convince anyone of anything.

I just posted one issue concern I had. It might be a Rage issue with the long blades. The shot was 10 yards so a lot of kinetic energy at the broadhead and bone at that range. Since the broadhead broke it was hard to tell what happened. My key is the 1-1/8 size. I prefer the smaller so it can pass thru bone and or reflect off and in-between bones if needed.

I've pretty well used 100 grain NAP Spitfires ever since I started hunting with a crossbow. They have served me well.

Started using the 100 grain Slick Trick Grizz. When I ran out of the Gen 1's, I was about to buy the Gen 2's when I saw the 150 Slick Trick Cross Tricks. That is what I have shot ever since.
I do take the time to spin tune the heads to the shafts so that they hit exactly where the field points do.

MeatEater had a really good podcast a few weeks back with an expert on broadheads. he has done all of his own studies and research and funded himself the entire time. He had some really good info on there!

I had a bad experience with expandable points from a crossbow. I've used Muzzy ever since. Never saw a need for a bigger hole than a muzzy makes.

Other than that, I have had VERY good results with ones identical to them. IIRC I was using a 2 blade, 2" or 2 1/2" cut.

I was using G5 T3s; however, G5 quit making them and replaced them with G5 Deadmeats. I only have 1 of the T3s left, so I'm switching to Deadmeats this year.
I'm not a fan of the rear opening style of expandales like the rage. That's a lot of energy loss just to fully open the blades.

Haven’t switched to deadmeats yet only because I found a good deal on the Havocs and bought a few packs of those. Use them in both my bow and crossbow.

I never had issues with the old style; however, I also always checked to make sure the blades were still clipped in after I got into the stand on all my broadheads in the quiver. Several times I had a blade come loose on the way in. I used the T3s in both my bow and crossbow. I want to switch to a fixed blade for my bow, but I've had some issues getting in tuned in with a fixed blade.
