Finally on the board, 1 for team 3. Should have had a few last weekend if not for some bad shooting. 1 for 1 tonight, was watching another in the treetops but the light was fading and I wanted to make sure I found this one.

Man, all you guys with the grey squirrels. All we have here are Fox and Reds. Used to never see grays down here and now that is almost all there is in the big woods. Mostly fox in town and small wood lots still.

5 more for Team #1. Been a long time since I got a big, old fox squirrel. But they are still around. Easily 2x the size of the grays. Every last one of these were shot coming down the trunk with a nut in their mouth. Shot the first at 7:30 on the dot and all done at 9:05. Personal total is now 34.

I'm curious to see how much difference there is skinning the fox vs the greys.

I'm curious to see how much difference there is skinning the fox vs the greys. Incredibly, the skinning wasn't bad at all. However, I was skinning it within the hour. Didn't take a pic, but the front leg of the fox squirrel was as big as the hind leg of the smaller gray! Biggest fox squirrel I have killed in years.

Please add 2 squirrels for team 6. Thanks. Possibly my best ever squirrel hunt on public land. Yesterday, I purchased a squirrel call and I think it may have been responsible for one of today's squirrels. I had been sitting on a log watching for movement and hit a few bark calls. Short while later when I got up I looked behind me and there was a squirrel coming down a tree and staring at me. Coincidence? Maybe. But I like to think that the ultra realistic sounds fooled him.

Very cool seeing all the pics and reading the stories. I spent MANY MANY hours sitting the the woods hunting squirrel as a kid. My uncle would supply me with a grocery bag of 20ga reloads in exchange for squirrel and rabbit. Eventually I started using dogs but the still hunts as a kid seem to be my more favorable memories. Thanks for posting!

5 more for Team #1. Went to the little wood lot that we deer hunt. Wondered how well I would do as the wind was blowing. Didn't matter. The fox squirrels were hard at it cutting hickories. Found 5 right around one of the blinds in an hour and 5 minutes. The real reason for taking the day off ... also got the shooting blinds sprayed with Home Defense and mouse bait out as usual. NOW we are ready for youth season! Personal total is now 39.

My neighbor calls them crackhead MF'ers. He's had them in his house twice, I have had them chew thru the crawlspace door and get in there, and make their way up to the attic. We shoot ANY we see near the houses or outbuildings and now I am gluing peanuts to some rat traps to place in strategic locations.

Please add 2 to team 6. Thanks. I was sitting on a log at first light and had one come down a tree right in front of me. After I shot that one, I had a couple hour lull until I noticed a few acorn cuttings falling through the canopy. Took me awhile to glass her up, she was way up there. Here she is.
