Ever since I mowed this evening I’ve been hacking and coughing. Not the norm for me. Now laying down to stem a nose bleed. And my grandson is complaining of irritated, Red eyes from a day on the golf course. Having seen a story on the news this morning about the wildfires raging from the west to Canada, Could this be the culprit!? Strange!!

We are in a moderate smoke level. Couple times I thought I smelled the smoke. High pressure is sinking air so it's worst in our area.

I cut and trimmed the yard yesterday along with working in the garden. I paid the price today: congested, itchy and burning eyes, and other things.

Just heard on the morning news from WAVE3 in Louisville that we are under an "air quality alert" here.

Im sure the smoke has something to do with it.

The air has been thick with smoke here for almost two weeks. There was a wild fire about a hour west of my place, along with all the fire's in Canada and the Boundary Waters.

From the weather folks..
...AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CDT THURSDAY NIGHT...The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has called for an Air Quality Action Day for high levels of Fine Particles PM 2.5 due to smoke in the air for today and Thursday for the following Southwest Indiana counties: Vanderburgh, Posey, Warrick, Spencer, Gibson, and Pike. This alert is in effect until midnight CDT Thursday night. A Particulate Alert is issued when the concentration of fine particulate matter smaller than 2.5 microns in the atmosphere may exceed federally mandated standards. Here are some recommended actions that the public can take to reduce the impact of Particulates on their health:
* Avoid burning wood in fireplaces or wood fired boilers
* Reduce activity time outdoors to reduce unhealthy exposure to fine particulates and avoid exercising near busy roads
* Avoid using gasoline powered lawn equipment or recreational vehicles
* Turn off your engine when idling for more than 10 seconds
* Conserve energy by turning off lights or setting the air conditioner to 75 degrees or above. Anyone sensitive to changes in air quality may be affected when Particulates PM 2.5 are high. Children, the elderly, and anyone with heart or lung conditions should reduce or avoid exertion and heavy work outdoors.

I just got back from Glacier, Big Sky and Cody. I saw my first ever forest fire. Something you will not forget if it was big I’ve seen one very large and one smaller one. My dad and I were way back in the bush fishing and camping we were on the lake fishing when all of a sudden a plane came over the hill behind us and hit the water It was one of the water dumping planes I didn’t know it but the have lakes plotted all over the country so they know were to go hit and not wreck the plane on sunken rocks or shallow areas they hit the lake most of the day The next day a small plane landed on the lake and a forest service guy told us to get out the wind had change and it was headed our way we had already started to pack you could tell it was coming it had went from a smoke smell haze to I can’t see or breath anymore. As we were driving out on the logging road you could see it went on for miles and miles

I was on Lake Mcdonald and the girl said last year they would be on the lake and the planes would swoop down and fill up right by the boat.

I was on Lake Mcdonald and the girl said last year they would be on the lake and the planes would swoop down and fill up right by the boat. The first time he hit the water I thought we were going to get hit when he hit the water it was like he down shifted the motors started screaming I don’t know how fast they go but he came across a big lake in a few seconds right at us then pulled up he wasn’t much higher then a tall tree when he went over us. Needless to say we moved and fished closer to the shore after that. I also had to put new underwear on It was very interesting to watch them and yet sad as you knew somewhere something was burning We went back the following year talk about a weird feeling looking at all the destruction it caused Went to Yellowstone about ten years after it burned you could still see all the burnt trees and landscaping changes it caused

One of those water planes nearly over took one of our helicopters out in California last year. That would've been a bad day, those pilots are nuts.

Couriosity begs to ask, are all these fires a natural event that have been taking place over a time span of centuries, human stupidity with camp fires, drug users starting them on purpose, thinking it's a "cool" thing to see? Just what is the cause?

Just what is the cause? Depends on the fire, some are lightning caused, brush fire that got out of control, or intentionally set. IIRC, one last year was started from a truck dragging a chain throwing sparks. Cool website to find out more info on wildfires - link

Just what is the cause? The two I have seen one was lightning the other I heard was a camper trailer brakes caught fire and when they pulled over the camper caught fire and then the truck burnt by the time they got to the fire it was out of control.

The one big fire out West last year (or was it 2 years ago) was caused by Pacific Gas & Electric not maintaining around the power lines and that is what started it. I think the same thing happened again this year.
When I lived in Oceanside, there was a wildfire pretty close to the house. The helicopter would hit the lake at the county park, fill up with water and just about come right over the house on it's way to the fire, which was about 1/2 mile away. It burned for most of the day but they finally got it put out. They had a plane come over that dropped the red fire retardant.
I was outside with the hose watering the roof of the house - it was a cedar shake roof..........
