I have an ac issue. The outside central air unit kicks on but, there's nothing coming on inside the house. I hear a noise around the a coil but, no clue what it is. I'm assuming some sort of blower motor?

Maybe hearing Refrigerant going through coil Try turning ac off at thermostat should say heat air or off on thermostat should be a button or switch says fan on or auto turn to fan on see if blower comes on

Does the central air unit fan run? Is it blowing hot air out of Central air unit? There is also a small fuse on the board for furnace that kicks the furnace fan on.

Sounds like the blower is not running. I've replaced my own fan before and it's not that hard if you are somewhat skilled. Could also be a the fan relay. The good news is that the blower is much less to replace than working on the AC unit.

So the fan inside is not turning on at all. The outside unit is working and pushing coolant because the copper coils on the A-coil are frosting over pretty quickly. The diagnostic light is steady on which, according to the chart, means "normal operation". I also tried spinning the fan manually to make sure it isn't jammed and it spins without issue, no odd noises either.
The ac had actually gone out overnight without my knowledge. My wife was aware but, she didn't want to tell me because she knew I had a fishing trip planned and she didn't want to ruin my trip. When I got home, she had sent me a text letting me know she was getting a window fan from her mom. Then I seen the windows open I figured the AC was out. I felt bad fishing all day when I should have been working on the AC. She thought I was going to be mad at her for not saying anything. I definitely was not. I do understand and appreciate her reasoning.

Mine is pretty level headed and has more common sense than she knows what to do with. She puts me in my place sometimes when I am overthinking things. Good thing she is on my side. Lol. Good luck with your repair outcome.

Save yourself a lot of grief by calling a repairman. Mine quit a few years back and it was more than just refrigerant gas something I would never have been able to diagnose. Get it serviced right and you will enjoy trouble free cooling for years to come.

Sounds like your blower motor could be bad it’s hard to say with out looking at it or putting a meter on it depends on age and style but it maybe just be a bad start cap

I know my limitations, and diagnosing this is beyond that.

I have an HAVAC guy coming this afternoon to have a look. I know my limitations, and diagnosing this is beyond that. Glad you have someone coming to look at it but on the circuit board for mine there are a couple of buttons you can press that tests everything on the unit-flame, vent, main fain, etc. I was able to do that once to figure out it was my thermostat that went bad.

Depending on your furnace make and model, on most it's quick and easy to reach the start capacitor, and remove it to check it or just replace it. You might need a fan motor replacement, which is a little more complicated. but I'd say it's definitely worth checking the capacitor out to see if that's the cause of the failure.
I had never taken much of anything off our old reliable Goodman in the last 18 years, and when mine showed the same symptoms, I studied some U-tube vids and dove in. Mine turned out to be one of the more difficult ones to reach the capacitor on, but it still wasn't a bad job. On most furnaces, the blower motor is visible once you remove the outer doors of the unit. On mine the motor was hidden behind a sheet metal plate about 16" square which had to be removed to access the motor and capacitor, and that required the removal of several wires and small components, but they were almost all simply un-bolt and bungee-to-one-side details that were not as formidable as they had first appeared to be.
Most important thing is to make SURE the power is off to the unit before sticking a hand inside it.
Like yours my blower motor spun freely and without making any suspicious noises, and when I took the capacitor off, it was noticeably bulged on the end with the connections. A quick trip to Shorty's HVAC supplies in West Newton, and about twenty bucks later, I was putting it all back together. The heating season was mostly over when the capacitor quit, but we've been using the blower in the "On" setting much of the late spring and summer, and it continues to run reliably.

ARRRRRRGGGHHHH! It's contagious! Got home from town and our AC is out! Compressor kicks on but the fan wont run. Then the compressor kicks out. I replaced the fan in this unit about three years ago.. I "think". Called it in. Hopefully they can get here today and have whatever parts they need. AC guy just called and will be here in about 10 minutes. Hopefully it is something simple like a start capacitor..

Repairman says it’s the fan motor.
He says the newer fans don’t have start capacitors.
NOW - the problem Is can they get one? Just like EVERYTHING else they are hard to come by.
My luck this will also be a “specialize motor “ as it is a geothermal unit.
Probably have to ship in from China 😉

If there was one thing I would do over in life, I would have gotten some type of HVAC training fresh out of high school.
It would've paid for itself by now.

He works for a pool company and they have nothing to do right now because there is a shortage of fiberglass pools. The sad thing is that, if he can do one job for me a week, that's one more than I could not have done without him. I have at least $20k worth of work waiting to be done, but no one to do it. By the way, I'm the new guy and four other estimators have way more than I do sitting and waiting than I do!
