I installed cameras a few years ago to watch all the doors. This will alert via text but I don’t use that feature cause it kept texting me when a car drove out on the road 60 yards away. This system cost me then around $200 dollars.

I got a dog. Now I don't have to worry about packages being stolen. USPS lady is scared to get out of her vehicle, and so was an Amazon guy the other day. But she's just a big sweety! Bob and Tom reference? Maybe ups usps and amazon can throw the packages at the door. These porch pirates do tick me off though. Buy the delevery people some dog treats! Yep - Chick McGee. Amazon, FedEx, and UPS gives her treats and love her. Our USPS mail lady is a different story. She won't get out of her little USPS wagon. My dog knows it and starts barking when she hears her 3 or 4 houses down before you can see her. A couple of days ago I watched her pull up to the mailbox, mess around for a minute, and then leave without even pulling in the driveway. I went out and got the mail and found she had written a note for us to come pickup our package at the post office because the dog was out. Lazy ^@#$% The amazon guy was a fluke. Must've been a new guy or sub. He was a black guy that looked to be out of his element out here in the boonies.

You might call the mail carrier a "lazy ^@#$%" but mail carriers and delivery people get bitten every day by dogs whose owners claim "wouldn't bite anyone" and as such, I can't blame the mail carrier for requesting you pick up your package @ the post office.

That's what I call this one. Before we had a dog she would pull in the driveway and start honking. She wouldn't get out of her vehicle. ThIs time she didn't even pull in the driveway.

While you left the above out of the original post, it still doesn't change my response. My stepfather was a letter carrier for years and he wouldn't deliver to certain houses due to the homeowner's aggressive dog(s).
If you feel that she's not fulfilling her duties, perhaps a phone call to the branch is in order. You may do that and find that the post office will back the carrier. If that turns out to be the case, I would imagine that you'll be taking trips to the post office to pick up your packages.

Just did a fishing trip with a couple guys that have those. Pretty annoying in my opinion. It's bad enough that they constantly have their noses in their phones, and jump anytime they get a FB or text alert. Now anytime someone approaches the front door, leave the house, etc. they get another notification they have to stick their nose back in the phone for.

So far, my wife appears to be the only one that can control which devices are activated via the app. I cannot control this on my phone app. Or at least I haven’t figured that out yet! I’ve already gone “numb” to checking every notification I get on my phone. We have zeroed in the zones so the floodlight camera doesn’t pick up every movement in the county. I should have the total system installed by this evening.

I had a lazy a..ed mail carrier sub that wouldn't bother to close the mailbox door all the way. The letters and packages would get soaked if it was raining out. I'd come home and the door would be fully open, snow inside the mailbox if winter time, everything soaked if it was above freezing. I didn't bother calling, I drove to the post office to complain. I was told that I wasn't the only one and after about 4 months of complaining the problem stopped - the sub was no longer delivering mail. Lazy a..ed people will try to use any excuse possible to get out of doing their job.

He needs to contact the local post office and complain (as I suggested) if he feels it isn't a dog issue. If the carrier is being lazy, (and other people have complained about the carrier) perhaps (as in your case) the carrier will be removed from the route. But if it's truly a dog issue, then I can't blame the carrier (or any delivery person) for not wanting to deliver packages @ the residence if he or she feels there is a risk of getting bitten.

I have my address at three places in my front yard. One is a typical street sign green w/white numbers at the road and driveway, I decorative sign down the driveway and one by the front door on the porch column. All large and easy to see. 20% of the time UPS or Fedx gets it wrong. Now Amazon gets it right. Go figure. I put multiple signs up after my 7/11/03 incident. Make if very easy to find my house for the police and ambulance.

I’ve also become aware of another cool feature from the Ring app! Earlier, I got notice from their “neighbors” section. A video came through from a few hours ago with an alert showing 2 dreadlocked dudes breaking into 2 vehicles a few blocks away. I have no idea from the video what the outcome might be, but they are gonna be pretty easy to identify if caught. It’s a pretty clear image. At this point I have my neighbor zone set for ~1/2 mile radius.

I find I am wanting something more than a motion detector at the end of the drive and same with lights on the house. How do you like it? How reliable and maintenance intensive/free is it? What would you reccomend for hardware? If my daughter has access to the system can I keep her from switching cameras and detection off? I have a ranch home with an enclosed breezeway connecting the garage to the house. Thank you in advance for any help and advice you or others for their views.

After another package was apparently stolen last week, my wife and I said, Enough it’s enough and we ordered the Ring! Security System with various accessories and devices! Reading through the material and getting ready to install! We’ll see how smooth the process rolls!! I hope your Ring works out, but I would have to make up an extraordinary package and put it on my porch for the reoccurring thief. My dog would be a major contributor to what would be inside along with some other very nasty stuff.

We have one. They can also turn into just another piece of electronic gadgetry that interrupts you all the time. If you get the notification tone on your phone every time it is activated, you will be constantly looking at family members coming and going, the dog going in front of it, etc.

Overall, we are quite satisfied with the Ring! I would say we would give it an eight on a scale of 10 being perfect. Like all things in life, nothing is perfect. The issues that we have had been more of annoyances. Like kids running around setting the app off and such. But that can be reset. The system has been very reliable and basically maintenance free. The two items we have grown to like the most are the doorbell and the floodlight camera. Another annoyance, which you may just get used to is the neighborhood portion. I never knew so. Many people have lost dogs and cats. There are some days that we may get a dozen notices of lost pets. But, we just ignore that after a while.

I’m traveling so just quick responses and I see I missed a point. Yes, you can control who has access to your settings on the app. You just need to keep the pass code and control to yourself.

The amount of critters that go through my front yard that Ring would drive me nuts.
I’ve got motion detector front porch lights and they turn on frequently. I’m sitting on the couch watching TV and they come in - it can be deer walking through the yard, the neighbors cat or dog, folks out walking or walking their dogs, possums, skunks, coyote, my neighbor turning in his drive, etc, etc.
I’ve got motion detector porch lights front and back and my driveway has dusk to dawn lights. I’m at the end of a well lit dead end street. A sheriff’s deputy lives at the halfway point. His sheriff’s car is parked in front of his house a lot.

Thank you for the response. I really, really would rather be buying a security system for porch pirates. My son is also going to help me get one set up.
