You can use a pike set up if you have that if not you need a heavier rod and line or use heavy line and set your drag a bit on the light side so you don’t break a pole like pike they get big and heavy
I use a medium weight rod with 20 lb test I don’t run a leader I hard tie but that’s the normal for me I use mostly use big spoons or fish looking baits like a perch had the best luck along weed beds casting or trolling faster than you would think in the spring I run underwater fall more top of water
North West of Fort Wayne has some incredible fishing for them if your up for a drive 36 Inch and up is common but you work at it they get fish often and hard seen and caught 40 Inch plus not every day but they are in the lakes

We used to use a metal leader up in Canada. Do you ever lose one without one? I had a nice Northern on and dad had used an old leader and the fish broke it; after that we always checked our steel leaders

Imy told Bruce Lake has some too. I have been watching a few videos and have seen some impressive set ups. But, I'm fairly certain these gents were pretty serious about musky fishing. I'll probably just go a few times a year to target them specifically so IDK how much I'll sink into it. A good rod and reel set up for heavier fish and a few lures to choose from will probably be good enough to start with. The 360GT searchbait looks pretty good.

I run 20lb and hard tie I don’t use them I’ve lost more big fish and lures with the wire clip stretching out on them. My buddy Steve thinks I’m nuts but I swear by it. Fishing in Canada or at least were I go is full of rocks stumps trees 95 percent of the time I’ll get my lure back or pull up what I’m hooked on if I can’t get it up or lose you have to cut the line, if it gets wedged between rocks back the boat up and yank more times then not it will come out
I even run it trolling for eyes or jigging for perch that might weigh a lb

Webster lake if you get this way like deer hunting you can drop tons of money into it when all you really need is a tag 5 gallon bucket and gun Bigger lures seems better in the fall I fished faster maybe that just worked for my gear or it caused a predator strike but I got more action

Last time I was fishing for them in Wi in the Spring, 4"-6" Yellow Perch imitation lures got the most hits. Let me go check the rod/reel/line setup. Rod: St. Croix 7' Medium Heavy rated for 20-30 pound line, Abu Garcia Ambassadeur spooled with 60# Power Pro braid, 5' 30# Fluorocarbon leader, Titanium single strand 30# leader.
Match the hatch, smaller lures in the Spring, bigger as the season progresses.
Buying Musky lures is only 2nd to buying offshore saltwater lures......... The sky is the limit on what they cost, even more than the most expensive hand crafted bass lures.

I haven't but realistically it should be no different than eating a large Pike.

I’m spoiled and believe me I am I’ve always had eyes and perch from up north my freezer was always full Of them until the Covid hit the water is colder and cleaner giving the fish a better taste. Got a pond right out my back door most of the fish that came out of it I gave away been working with Scott hopefully I’ll have a pond full of perch soon might not be as generous as I was with the bass and gills

I really enjoy northern pike so I imagined they'd taste similar.

He's supposed to cull about 400 of them this year. Now imagine casting one of these out repeatedly as bait for a Musky!

We had a superintendent that quit talking to my coworker because he brought in some smoked musky for lunch. He actually said to us that he cared more for musky than his own kids!!! Nice guy but all I could say was WOW!!
