1) For those of you that store your boat outdoors, how to you deter critters such as mice and aground squirrels from your boat? I'll have mine parked in the opening/lean-to of my wood shed.
2) I am going to add some lights to my boat. I am wanting to hide the wires in the gunnel. What is the best way to go about it? Any certain type of clip that will work best?

We store ours in the barn but still plenty of mice. We just put a little d con in there along with softener sheets. We do the same thing with our camper when we winterize it.

I've gone to using this type poison from Tractor Supply in the outbuildings. I feel that it is more effective than D-Con. www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/tomcat-with-bromethalin-bait-chunx-4-lb-pail-1014843?store=204&cm_mmc=feed-_-GoogleShopping-_-Product-_-1014843&gclid=Cj0KCQiA7YyCBhD_ARIsALkj54oA6atloXju2KvEJg9wjtLnzbupj-EGRwkxCZQn4mseRloVf9wh8PcaAkqDEALw_wcBIt's supposed to kill them with them only eating it once. I had previously used D-Con and the tub with the yellow lettering, but I still had issues with the mice. It IS more pricey than the others. The blocks work the best, I have also tried the packets and they don't seem to get chewed on as fast as the blocks. I would still use the dryer sheets or mothballs to keep them away - you don't want them chewing holes in the cover to get in the boat just to die there. You have to be VERY CAREFUL if you have pets when using poison. Not only careful with the poison itself but keeping the pets from eating the dead rodents. I lost close to 50 pheasants one year by putting out D-Con for mice that were eating the food I'd put in the pen for the pheasants. I couldn't figure why the pheasants were dying until I saw a hen pheasant walking around with a dead mouse in her beak. They couldn't get to the poison, but they could get to the dead mice I guess. As for the wire. I would run the wire in small diameter hard plastic pipe or convoluted tubing held in place with Type R cable clamps that you attach to the boat with a screw or pop rivet. If the boat is aluminum, I'd use an aluminum pop rivet or aluminum buck rivets vs. a metal screw to minimize electrolysis.

I was looking closer and I think the gunnel is a square tube. I can probably just run the wire through that?

Also, boat is stored a couple hundred feet from the house where the dogs run in a fenced in yard. Do you think that's safe enough?

You might be able to fish the wire through that, but if you do remember to use grommets at the entry and exit points. You don't want the metal tube to chafe through the wire insulation and start a fire. As for the boat in the dog run, make sure to cover the tires/rims, you don't want them peeing on that all winter long, and I'd still be worried about mice.

Absolutely not nearly good enough!
You definitely need to get a pole barn built with concrete floor, full electric, and heat. Might even consider water and a bathroom as well as a bed for when the wife sends you out there to live. 😁

They make rodent tape to wrap wires in. Guess it tastes bad??
