The proposed bill essentially takes away the ability of local governments to regulate solar and wind farms. Typically this kind of thing would fall under the dominion of local government, at least to a great extent, under Indiana's Home Rule statute. This is clearly a big money end-run around local zoning. While I can see the potential of so-called renewable energy, the jury is very much out on the efficacy and environmental impact of some of these ideas. Locals should have some say on whether or not an enormous wind farm can be built next door, especially considering the effect such things can have on property value. Anyway, there doesn't seem to be a lot of news out there so I thought I'd post about it. This article explains it well: Home rule articleFacebook group

What concerns me the most about this is that the bill is almost exclusively created and sponsored by Republicans. You know the party that is supposed to have an individuals property rights as a high priority...

There’s a lot of the same time of stuff going on in the legislature that this year. My rep Doug Miller of Elkhart County who’s a leader in Builder Associations and tied to the development community authored a bill that would eliminate local govt authority on construction standards. Fortunately that one stunk so bad ethically that they didn’t really have a choice but to kill it. There’s also the wetlands bill where the authors have strong ties to the development community.

Dirty little secret: (most of) the republicans are vacationing and partying up with their enemy democrats every night. They are all in it together for the betterment of their own pockets. Republicans are no better than democrats... and really haven't been for a long time now. The only individuals any of them care about are themselves.

The State government absolutely HATES it when the Federal government dictates what they can or can't do. But the State LOVES to tell the local governments what they can or can't do.
There is only one reason for this - a gift to the oil, gas and coal companies. If locals want to allow construction of solar and wind facilities, that should be their decision. Next, they will tell us we need State permission to install our own systems at home.

Oh I know, Rowray the district 35 rep is a republican but her husband is a registered and prominent Democrat. Tell me how that works.
