I just took it. Besides the usual questions about how many deer I saw and took during the recent hunting season, it seems as though they are putting feelers out asking what hunters consider to be "acceptible" hunting firearm calibers for deer. Some of the questions were very specific: for example, they asked what I considered to be the minimum muzzle energy of a projectile I would consider "good" take a heart or lung shot at deer out to 100 yards. This same question was asked for rifles, shotguns, pistols, and muzzleloaders.
I admit I had to do some research on the subject because, obviously, not all projectiles have the same ballistic coefficient. The baseline I used was the .357 Magnum since I consider it to be the weakest cartridge I would feel comfortable using to take deer at 100 yards.
Interestingly enough, during my research I discovered Brenneke makes a 28 ga shotgun slug that has some pretty impressive 100 yard energy ratings. On the other side of that coin, some .410 slugs match the muzzle energy of the .357 magnum, but because of their horrible BC, they are really weak at 100 yards.

Yah - I skipped those questions because I'm too ignorant to have an opinion!

As long as it's going fast enough with the correct mass you will have the correct ft-lbs to take down the animal humanely.

They lumped pcc rifles with HP rifles and single shot pistols with repeating pistols. Both are totally different in min size bullets to use.

I had to research the min ft-lbs to take a white tail down at a 100 yards. They say 1000 ft-lbs. I said 1100 which was a guess.

I went with a 1000 for every answer I did....personally I believe they over thought what many may know IMO

Haven't gotten my email yet, but im guessing the minimum caliber is an effort to gain public opinion on the use of 223 for deer. I know (not personal experience, grew up with a couple guys) a 22-250 will kill deer just as dead, quite quickly, and at some decent ranges daylight or dark.

Probably air rifles would be my guess! Probably but a 100yards would be to far for a air rifle. With a good scope and practice I say most could hit the important spot IMO
