Morning update from DU: Good morning All, Despite our calls to the House to pass the amended bill as is, the House of Representatives decided to amend the legislation again last night during session to exempt all Class 1 wetlands (estimated to be around 400,000 acres statewide) and many of the Class 2 wetlands. To say that this is disappointing is an understatement. The House will take a final vote on the bill later today. We must drop the hammer again and flat-out oppose the legislation. I will be reaching out to all those in my network requesting that folks reconnect with their representatives to make it clear where we stand now that the bill has changed once again. I urge all of you to call AND email your representatives asking them to oppose SB 389 now that its been amended yet again to put hundreds of thousands of acres of wetlands at risk. Find your legislator here: iga.in.gov/legislative/find-legislators/The amendment to expand the scope of impact of this bill passed with just 54 votes last night, which means that if we can peel-off just five votes this morning, the bill at-large will not have enough votes to pass. Important targets to focus on: Aylesworth Borders Clere Eberhart Ellington Karickhoff Ledbetter McNamara Olthoff Rowray Snow Vermilion We need to apply pressure throughout the day today. The House will go into session at 11 AM, however, it is unclear when they will vote on 389. Thank you all for the continued energy you pour into this. We are undoubtedly up against stiff headwinds given the political power the builders have amassed over the years, but it’s important to leave everything on the field right now.

Passed House 58-40. Sent back to Senate because of changes. Passed Senate 31-19.
Last ditch effort to get Governor to veto.
Who knows?
I hate politics.

Just another failed all or nothing government attempt at destroying private property rights. Cry me a river, last I checked our waterfowl aren't endangered.

In 30 years of experience I just haven't seen this scenario where a developer is dependent on drying out a true wetland. I have seen money and power grabs and lost property rights due to greenies sabatoging projects over puddles. It wasn't done right from the start. Think of all the good that could have been done with new wetland projects.

(From the Indiana Wildlife Federation) Dear wildlife friends, On Monday, April 26th, I joined a number of leaders from conservation groups all across Indiana in delivering a letter requesting Governor Eric Holcomb veto the harmful SB389 anti-wetlands legislation that is on his desk for signing. The letter is signed by the Indiana Wildlife Federation and over 100 other conservation organizations. You can strengthen the message of that letter by contacting the governor's office and telling him to protect wildlife and wetlands with a veto. Isolated wetlands are wetlands with no direct connection to a lake, river, or stream. These isolated wetland areas are invaluable habitat that support countless species of Indiana birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and pollinators. They are key to sustainable, thriving habitats that also protect our drinking water and help buffer our communities against flooding. You can read in more detail about this bill by reading full letter and legislative explanation to Governor Holcomb.
