I logged in to INDNR went to apply for a draw hunt and nothing was available . MOSS: it's there I just checked. You may need to register through The Indiana . gov web site. I couldn't find my history of animals I had checked in until the person at the DNR help desk set me straight. You might want to call one of these numbers and inquire 317-232-4200 or 877-463-6367.

Second PSA
If you don't already have a stock of your chosen turkey ammunition, you may want to be looking everywhere and getting it soon.

I drew 4th season at Kingsbury. Also hoping they resume the no show draws this year. Indiana manages their turkey very conservatively and as a result I've found the quality on public on par with any Midwest state. Wish I could say the same for deer.

With overall success rate for turkey about 20% and deer about 50%, I can't see where Indiana does a worse job with deer than turkey.

I expect for inexperienced guys its easier to walk into a deer than a turkey. But I've hunted turkeys on Indiana public since they began offering hunts, and I've scored every year on mature toms. And guided 2/2 friends to birds their first seasons hunting as well. This was on three different public properties. All just as good as the other. Maybe I'm just more experienced as I've been hunting them since the mid 1980's in 6 different states. But I find them wherever I hunt. I'm entered in the turkey contest and you will see I'll score again here, before I'll have a chance to enter birds from IL & WI. It's just that good here. Even with a 4th season tag I don't care. All but one of my toms came in the latest seasons. It doesn't matter. As for deer ya if you want a doe or dink sure 50% no problem, but I strictly trophy hunt and pass on anything below 140". That just ain't gonna happen here with Indiana management. That would be more like a 1% chance on public. So statistics can be quite deceptive. Since 1990 my Indiana public success rate on mature toms is 100% and for 140" bucks 0%. Those are real numbers.

For you guys that didn't get drawn, I highly recommend you apply for later seasons next year. 4th and later you will draw. And for this year just go for "no shows". There's always some spots left open. And if not, you can scout from your vehicle to find where there are birds and no hunters.

My bad, I thought you were talking overall management and hunter success rate. I didn't realize you were only judging off your personal experience.

With overall success rate for turkey about 20% and deer about 50%, I can't see where Indiana does a worse job with deer than turkey. Success rates are ESTIMATED per the Deer/Turkey Harvest reports .... "Results. – Hunter success rate and the total number of hunters afield were estimated for the 2019-2020 deer hunting season. In 2019, 124,079 non-youth hunters purchased a deer hunting license, and 48,788 of those hunters harvested a deer using the same CID as the license for a success rate of 39.3% (CI95=39.0%, 39.6% Table 3-18). The success rate has steadily increased since 2016. An estimated 212,719 total hunters were afield during the 2019-2020 hunting season""Estimations for the total number of hunters is necessary because the total number of landowner hunters, active lifetime license holders, and military exempt hunters is unknown because they are not currently tracked in the license system. Further refining the understanding of the total number of hunters afield is only possible if these hunters are counted in some way."BTW...Turkey data is SPRING report only the fall harvest not included. "The estimated number of hunters afield was 57,489 in 2019 with an estimated hunter success of 20%."

I know other states have actual seasons split up by numbers, but we don’t. One consecutive season here. I haven’t been very successful for turkeys on public here, but I only shoot turkeys with a minimum of 1-1/2” spurs and a 12” beard. Just not too many of them on public here.

I haven’t been very successful for turkeys on public here, but I only shoot turkeys with a minimum of 1-1/2” spurs and a 12” beard. Just not too many of them on public here. I just used the word seasons to specify which dates I drew. I'm sure you know the public draws in 3 and 2 day hunt periods. I drew the 4th public "hunt period" (April 29 & 30, May 1) I'm just used to using the word season because that's the term used in IL & WI which have similar systems. Dang you have great eyes if you can judge spur length in the field! lol Most toms are not going to exceed 10" on a beard just due to it dragging the ground. I just look for the biggest bird with a full length beard 9"+. It really surprises me when I hear of guys having trouble on public scoring toms. I do like to scout a lot, but I have no problem locating exactly which groves and actual trees the birds roost in. They seem to be in the same trees year after year. And they tend to fly down and hang in the same areas year after year. The best advantage in Indiana is that the hunting pressure is so low that none of the toms are spooked by either pop-up blinds or decoys. And usually come right in. That is not the case in my late season Wisconsin public areas, where use of my Ghost blind is mandatory. Otherwise the toms will avoid my setup by 60+ yards or even run like hell at first sight! In Indiana I can't recall another hunter pushing or busting my setup even once, or pressuring birds off one of my known roost sites. Not the case in IL & WI.
