Neascus. We call it Black Spot Disease. I will bet that he doesn't have Redear in his pond, or not enough of them, but he DOES have snails. How big is the pond, and I'll tell you how many Redear to stock.
Life cycle:
Eggs are released by fish-eating birds into the water. Eggs develop into intermediate stages of the parasite in snails. These free-swimming parasites penetrate the muscles of fish and encyst. Black pigmentation is deposited onto these cysts. Infected fish are consumed by birds where the life cycle starts all over again. Adult worms are seen in fish-eating birds.
You might also see white or yellow grubs in the fish, snails are the intermediate host of them too.

He just put in 100 redears in last year. 1 acre pond.
Thanks for the response.
9 inches and 9 inches tall is a stud of a bluegill.

See yellow grubs in most yellow perch up here, I place fillets in pan of room temp water with a lite sprinkle of salt. Most of the grubs fall to the bottom of the pan. If not they fry up fine also...LOL

If there are any Largemouth in there, bass will eat bluegill shaped fish up to 1/3 their body length, and the newly stocked fish are pretty easy pickings. I figure that you'd lose 40%-50% to predators in the first few weeks.

I stocked redear in my home pond many years ago and never knew anything about this.
