Update on the proposed solar farm:
Went to a meeting the other day and it was a packed house as much as would be allowed to fill the warehouse. After a lot of back and forth they decided to table it until next meeting to have some more fact finding done. Funny thing is what I was initially told is if we spoke out against it then the whole good neighbor agreement would be removed from the table.
they wanted to pay us 1K a year for 35 years in exchange we would not pursue litigation in the future. Well we decided that we would counter with 2K they immediately said no. Less than 36 hours after the meeting we got a call and they jubilantly said we can do the 2K. This gave me and dad some time to think.
What has changed, so I called back and I proposed something that would be cheaper in the long run to them and it was 5K a year for 5 years then they have to supply power to our shed and they foot the electric bill for as long as the project would run. He called back later that afternoon and said they couldn't do it. So I told him no deal. Dad is wanting to sign it, but when I told him that some day down the road some of the chemicals in the solar panels could get into the lake which we swim in.
And one of my daughters comes down with some disease and I can't pursue legal action, he got the picture real fast. So the next meeting is in march and we will see what comes of it then.

Are they going to put up a tall opaque fence? There is a big one by acton and it has that, it is a metal frame wrapped in green fabric

From what I've been told they will only put up the opaque screening where it approaches a house.

Thing that worried me when they wanted the wind farm by me was resale at some point you are going to sell your home it maybe 30 years for you but I’m on a shorter side of ten years.
I know if ground A and ground B are close to equal I’m buying the one without the wind solar plant beside it and I’d have to believe that would be the case for most people

I'd rather look at an opaque fence than other peoples houses. 2k a year would help with property taxes, also. Add the fact that stuff like this gets done eventually with or without you, it is a no-brainer.

35 years @ 2k a month sounds tempting but what if there not in business all that time. Then your probably going to court trying to get your money!

Another thing that worried me and who’s going to get rid of it most of these kind of projects are funded by the government before Trump they were on a tear for 8 years I’d say they will be again for at least another 4 I agree the money they offer sounds great but when I looked at the possibility of being stuck with a project that was left to fall down be overgrown and left to rot next to me I voted against it

Property taxes aren't all that bad, I believe it's around $300/year. And yes I do agree with a lot of the comments that it will eventually get done but wanting to be safe compared to painted into a corner and waiting on the paint to dry for 35 years then again they said they could extend it as well.
Another prospect to consider is the fact of how detrimental will it be to property values? Large studies (400K homes) have shown that it decreases property values. The more extreme the closer you get, I understand that we currently don't have a house out there although it's been a dream of mine to build one out there. There is no clause in the agreement that protect adjoining property owners from a devaluing of the negative impact it brings.
Me and dad bought the property around 20 years ago for 13K, 12 acres with a lake. Had a guy from whitetail properties give us a quick guess on what it would be worth now. He said around 70K+ is what it might be valued at right now.

Guy I know in Oklahoma had property where they wanted to put a natural gas well on. He worked out a deal where all the natural gas for any building that is on the property is free. He's slowly buying up all the property that touches his farm, and the relatives/kids are building on it. The way the contract is worded, all their natural gas is free too now.

Better than wind mills. Might make your rates go down? I have 0 problems with them. This coming from a civil engineer. how about sticking with natural resources! The solar is working real well in Texas. Thousands without power!

Well just read something that Hoosier Energy is partnering up with this tenaska group to get their power from the solar far. I guess the writing is on the wall, still uneasy about the whole thing. We will see.
