This year I'm going to invest in some ladder stands, I used one of my buddies that was setup on my property this year. Seen far more deer than I normally do, with that being said. What type of stand would you all suggest? The one he has is a Muddy, but he said they got bought out. So what do you all suggest? looking to get a single seater and a double for the possibility of my daughter going with me next year, that is if he behaves.
thanks all.

As far as I know Muddy still makes a great product. They were bought out in 2019, but I don’t think much changed as far as production. They still sell stands, cameras, and gear under their name.

I have several different brands of stands. They all work. I look for mesh seats, foot rests, and wide ladders. I use bolts for the ladders instead of the clips they come with. I use additional ratchet straps also

There are lots of manufacturers of good ladderstands, Muddy, API, Summit, Big Game, Ameristep, etc. Just make sure whatever stand you buy is safety rated by the Tree stand Manufacturers Association. My nephew put up a really cheap double ladder stand he bought at RK, and it was so cheap, the ladder didn't have pins holding the ladder in place at the bottom of the platform. When one hunter tried to climb up onto the platform the ladder separated from the bottom of the platform, and the hunter fell 16 feet clinging to the ladder. Make a quality ladderstand mandatory.

thanks guys, just want to make sure that what I get has safety in mind and then comfort. After all I plan on trying to get my then 7yo daughter into hunting, don't know if it will work on but I won't know until I try.

One thing that I find very important is to ensure that the platform that you stand on is has ample depth to it so that I can easily stand. We have a Muddy two man that is excellent in regards to platform size. We have a primal brand that is not so good in regards to the platform size.

Those el cheapo ladder stands the foot rest are very small. May look like bargains but set in them a couple hours is no fun.

It says “two man stand” but that’s only possible if it is two real skinny midgets...and they like each other. ...a lot. It’s OK for one person, but I have more comfortable hang on stands.

We have a Muddy two man that is excellent in regards to platform size. We have a primal brand that is not so good in regards to the platform size. I really, really, really like the stands that have the sling type seats, not the hard mesh kind. VERY comfortable for me. What I don't like about them is that they are narrow, and if a deer isn't in front of you it's hard to turn and keep the gun steady. The other thing that I really like about them is that if you have a gun rest on them, the only way you can fall out is if the whole stand comes down from the tree. You can sleep in it and not worry about falling out. The foot platform size sucks. I wear size 12's, and it isn't any deeper than my shoe, and the seat position is a bit too low, your lower leg is always bent. I am in the process of welding and modifying all the stands after the season is over now. Making the top part wider by 4", lowering the foot rest and making it run to the back of the stand. Making a gun rest that is height adjustable and "U" shaped so even if a deer is to the side of you there is a rest for the gun. Summit makes replacement seats that buckle in quickly, and it's so easy that you could take the seat out with you every day so the squirrels don't chew on it. I wanted to have more seats made, but I can't find the metal buckle hardware. Welding the top 5' of the stand together stops any movement or creaking noise. I made a jig so that I can collapse the tube of the ladder so it fits inside of the upper tube, and I can drill/bolt the sections together if needed. I'm using 1" and 3/4" OD square tube, .062" wall.

I went into RK yesterday to see if anything was on sale, nothing yet. The stand I did sit in was rather comfortable and I couldn't agree with you more esshup. The platform for my feet was rather small. Luckily it did have a flip down foot rest. As for the sling type of seats I will keep that information in mind. I don't plan on doing any hunting until bonus antlerless comes in, how long before the second season comes in should I put up the stand. I know the sooner the better but just wanting to catch something on sale.

I've put up a stand in the mid morning and killed a deer from it that evening.

I had two API buddy stands that I really liked. Very sturdy and roomy. However, they are a royal pain to store if you can't leave them in the woods.

I have one ladder stand that I bought, not sure the brand ,but its a 2 man stand and the bench seat lifts up out of the way. Really nice for when your bow hunting. All the others we built ,me and my dad, and they have 4'x4' platforms with SS expanded steel platforms.
Whatever you get, get one with room to move!

Something I have noticed over the years, a 2-man stand attached to the wrong tree...stays on the wrong tree. Or it can be placed on the wrong side of the right tree and no-one ever moves it. Those suckers are heavy and awkward and they don't get relocated just abandoned to the rust. If you hang one, make sure you are satisfied.

Jeff Sturgis (Whitetail Habitat Solutions on YouTube) posted a video today on good and bad hunting investments. Number two, right after quality clothing, was quality stands. I've made it no secret that I think he is an opinionated narcissist, but I happen to agree with him on this particular video. Buy quality gear once and use it for many years to decades. I know too many guys that spend (for conversation sake) $100/year on the newest gizmos and gadgets rather than invest $1k on a quality set of clothing and boots that will last.

^^^ What he said. I purchased a set of dry lock or goretex (I can't remember what) the day I got soaked at The Dunes State Park during a hunt. Even the paper in my wallet was wet. I drove home, hopped in the shower to get warmed up, then drove straight to Dicks and paid through the nose for a set of bibs and a coat. Heavy for late season hunting. That was 1998 I believe and I am still using them now. I hated to spend the $$ but I hated to be soaked even more.
