And I feel really dirty about it.
Really I bought a crossbow because I need to get my main bow switched over to heavy broadheads for our January hog hunt and I wont have time to get my backup ready, this gets me back out faster and gives me some time to familarize with it before my oldest starts hunting next year.
I have a buck tag still burning a hole in my pocket.

No reason to feel dirty. Just another weapon in the arsenal. I bought one for my son to use, but I’ve taken it quite a few times myself. Killed one doe with it.

Definitely nothing to feel dirty about. I bought an old Horton for my wife in the early 2000's as she wanted to turkey hunt. She, has always been fearful of loud noises. So, no guns for her. I ended up trying it out and really enjoyed it. Then, I bought a newer one when my kids started hunting. I've been an archery coach for NASP and now S3DA. I've grown to love all aspects of archery no matter the type. I took a deer with my new Obsession compound this year and my buck with the kid's crossbow. I still love shooting the recurve too. For me, it's all a different type of the same passion. Sometimes my stand setup lends itself better for a compound and sometimes, like in a buddy stand with a rail, it's more efficient with the crossbow. It's nice to have options. What ever passion drives you all, I hope you enjoy the rest of the season. May your new crossbow purchase make you happy and add much venison( or pork) to your freezer. Good luck on the heavier setup on your compound and tight groups to you!

I can see where a crossbow can be a better option at some of the places I hunt. I know a compound cost me 1 doe this year, by getting busted drawing.

Pros and cons to crossbow and compound. Crossbow handles more like a rifle, since stock and trigger and scope, but it`s heavier, louder, and more unwieldy to handle up in the stand.
Compound bow is tougher to aim because of peep sight and pins, but it`s lighter, much quieter, and much easier to handle in the stand.
Personally, I miss shooting and hunting with my compound bow, but due to medical issues, it wasn`t feasible anymore. The crossbow allows me to keep hunting during archery season, so I don`t feel quite as bad for not being able to hunt with compound any longer.

I bought my second New compound bow around 20 years ago, Mathews LX $800, bare bow. I changed the limbs from 70lb to 60lb about 10 years ago. I'm real good with it out to 40 yards.
I bought a New crossbow last year, Wicked Ridge Ultra Lite, $400, complete with quiver, arrows, cocking rope, and scope. 150lb pull, so I can practice shooting without getting to sore. I am comfortable shooting out to 50 yards. I have cocked it in a stand just to see if I could, it had a small pucker factor. It is louder than my compound, but my compound shoots 260fps: whereas, my crossbow shoots 330fps. I call my crossbow a short range riffle.
I, and some others would be interested in what you bought....?

I didnt realize there was a national crossbow bolt shortage along with ammo.
After exploring a few different options including ordering alpha nocks and non ten point brand bolts with correct inner diameter, I ordered aluminum wicked ridge bolts for this year. I was unclear if the alpha nocks on amazon included the inserts and tenpoint is advertising 4 weeks to ship. Every other ten point bolt is out of stock or inflated prices on amazon.

Wow. This shortage mess is already out of control if spreading to arrows. Just wait until things get really bad!!!
The aluminum arrows will be great! They are a lot less picky on broadheads and have very consistent flight. Possibly due to having full length vanes? You just have to be careful removing from a broadhead target, as they can bend, and dont spring back like carbon.

You just have to be careful removing from a broadhead target, as they can bend, and dont spring back like carbon. From what I gathered, it appears mostly isolated to tenpoint. I would much prefer carbon for the higher FOC and the not bending factor, but at 350+ fps it shouldnt matter much.

Last year I bought all four omninock sizes from tenpoint in hopes to find an arrow from other than tenpoint to use my omninocks and keep the warranty. Then tenpoint did away with the omninock warranty restriction. So, I've been shooting Bloodsport arrows with great success, no modifications, and priced right.

Then tenpoint did away with the omninock warranty restriction. So, I've been shooting Bloodsport arrows with great success, no modifications, and priced right. I'm restricted to alpha nocks for warranty purposes. I've been seeing a bunch of post on the change of TENPOINT's Omni-Nock to the Alpha-Nock. Here is a little explanation and a chart for the invention of the Alpha-Nock ......... When you change the width of the bow assembly, you also change the angle that is formed between the right and left sides of the bowstring when the crossbow is cocked. When the bow assembly is wider, the angle is greater, and when the bow assembly is narrower, the angle is reduced. Thus, as string angles change, the shape of the nock that works best with a specific angle must also change. Back 20 years ago, the best nock to shoot out of a TenPoint was a flat nock. It had many advantages over the moon and capture nock styles that were being used at the time. In 2013, when the bow assemblies became significantly narrower, TenPoint developed the Omni-Nock to accommodate for the reduced angle. With bow assembly widths on TenPoint’s new 2019 line-up now ranging from only 6 to 9-inches when cocked, TenPoint recognized the need for another evolutionary change in nock shape and has developed the Alpha-Nock, the most technologically advanced crossbow nock to date. TenPoint’s Alpha-Nock features a deep bowstring groove, a large smooth radius base, and elongated ears. The string on TenPoint’s crossbows wraps tightly around the center of the Alpha-Nock resulting in straight nock travel and precision down-range accuracy, while minimizing string serving wear. The Alpha-Nock can be used in any TenPoint, Wicked Ridge, or Horton Crossbow Innovations crossbow. Use of the Alpha-Nock in any of these crossbows will not void the warranty, even if your crossbow originally required the use of a flat nock or Omni-Nock. With an increase String-to-Nock Engagement by 28%, the Alpha-Nock’s deep groove and large radius base “holds” the bowstring in place on extremely narrow crossbows to prevent “shoot-over” or “shoot-under”. I hope this makes things clearer. #tenpointcrossbows

Depending on the company, they may discontinue the equipment, and the user must buy all new equipment, such as a new crossbow, because they wont keep making the older nocks to fit our bows.
