Even with the 4 year, they still had to call it in, at least whenever I bought a new gun they did. Cabela's put me on a delay and I was peeved. That's when I did some research and found out what the possible reasons were. They have to call you within 3 days with a denial or you are free to go get it. Not sure if that changed or not, but that's what it was before. I'll ask my FFL, I will be seeing him this week. I'm getting a .308 for hunting. I have one but it's more for target or long range hunting, not walking around. This one will be strictly for hunting.

I was in the check out line at a gun store in Corydon a few years ago. There was a uniformed police officer in front of me that was also purchasing a gun. He got delayed while I walked out with my gun. Figure that one out.

Ours used to bypass the check, but doesn't now. Its my understanding there is something the state has to apply for or modify slightly for it to again. When we went away from the 4 yr to the lifetime license it changed. I thought it changed well before that...

They are under no obligation to allow you to pick it up before the check comes back. I really doubt that walmart will allow it.

I got delayed once a few years ago (the day after Christmas, when sales were through the roof) and was told they had 3 days to deny me. If I hadn't been denied in 3 days, it defaulted to a pass. I did a quick bit of research and found that isn't quite accurate: excerpts from: www.atf.gov/file/61086/download"--NTN-- will be delayed while the NICS continues its research. If you do not receive a final response from us, the Brady Law does not prohibit the transfer of the firearm on ___day/date ___." "If the FFL has not received from the NICS a final determination after 3 business days have elapsed since the delay response, it is within the FFL’s discretion whether or not to transfer the firearm (if state law permits the transfer). If the FFL transfers the firearm, the FFL must note “no resolution was provided within 3 business days” on line 19d of the ATF Form 4473."

I have never been delayed or denied. I have bought in some peak times too. I asked my FFL guy about the special number when filling out the form and he said it is for someone that gets denied or delayed due to having the same name or something else that causes it. I did not ask him anymore about it.

Well, "9 Guns" in Anderson called me today, they had just received my new Henry .357 Single shot. I drove up, filled out the paperwork, and my rifle is STILL at "9 Guns" in Anderson! Delayed yet again! Should be able to claim it by the 17th.

If the FFL does not hear back from the NICS within 3 days after calling in the customer is allowed to pick up his firearm on the 4th day. they do NOT count Saturday or Sunday. So, since today is Wednesday, there is Thurs, Friday and Monday for the 3 days, you can pick it up on Tuesday whether they hear from the NICS or not. They should notify you if they hear back from the NICS sooner. If you went in on Monday to buy a gun, and get delayed, you pick it up on Friday. There is also a permit that you can apply for and get that is good for a certain length of time, and that permit allows you to purchase and walk out of the store with a gun, without them having to call it in. That is called a Point of Contact permit, unfortunately Indiana is not a state where that is a viable option.

Got an email today my gun was in at rural king. Went and picked it up. Was there a total of maybe 30 minutes and was out the door with the gun. Don’t even think it was that long really.

Annnnnnnnddddddddddd drumroll please. Finally approved. Of course it took just as long to find someone capable enough to check me out but it's done. Just in time for 2021 deer season. Rest assured. Now that I bought an Indiana legal straight wall, hpr's will be legal statewide next year.

Now that I bought an Indiana legal straight wall, hpr's will be legal statewide next year. Last year I ordered mine on Labor Day weekend. Wsited 6 weeks only to have to order canceled because they couldn't fill it. Went to another shop the next day, his supplier showed them in stock. He waited 3 days to order it so it would deliver on an open day. They were out by then. It finally delivered the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. I took it hunting for the first time opening day this year.
