How can one just receive their CCW permit recently and try to buy a rifle and get a delay on the nics check? How does that even compute?

It could mean many things but I wouldn’t worry about it. With the way the election went I say they are BACKED UP and will be for some time!

Searched all over the state for this exact gun and found it an hour away. Hour there, hour back. Only pick up when manager is there onced approved. Manager isn't there after 5. I pour concrete for a living. Wanna guess when I'll be off in time to make that time frame.

It took weeks to clear the rifle I bought in 2016 and I've had carry permit for decades. It is frustrating for sure

It could be a lot of things. Could be someone with a record had a similar name, could be a severely backed up system, could be you checked the wrong box on something that caused the background check to run an audit. I wouldn't read into it.
Also you may not have received an actual delay, my wife got a "delay" once. Turns out Bass Pro had denied her and never sent it to NICS. They told her it was a delay but they actually thought she was making a straw purchase for me (we both buy our own guns, I have no need for her to purchase one for me). The fresh faced youth behind the counter assumed that a woman buying was doing so for her husband.

Purchased more than one and refused to give out my SS number, got Ok'd any way, and carried it out the door. Filled out the form for a new firearm once while sitting in a police car out behind our local City Hall, didn't give out the SS# on that one either.

Seems like I get delayed about half the time. It is annoying- especially if the dealer is some distance away.

It is what you post to facebook. There could actually be some truth to that. Or Google searches. Family is instructed to destroy my phone upon my death.

There is something about the Indiana license that does not allow sales to bypass NCIS check. Several states license does. Someone use your SS# and you do not know about it?

Ours used to bypass the check, but doesn't now. Its my understanding there is something the state has to apply for or modify slightly for it to again.

Your SS number does NOT need to be on the form. Just don't leave it blank, draw a line through it. If you are delayed or don't get an answer right away, if after 3 days you don't hear from the dealer it is OK to go pick up.
Not getting an immediate OK just means that someone physically has to go to your file and pull the paperwork to check. It happens to me about 50% of the time.

Friend of mine had that happen, he wanted to buy one. Someone with the same name had a felony, he had to prove it was him beyond a shadow of a doubt. Said it was really a quagmire to get thru, but he eventually was able to get the gun.

When we went away from the 4 yr to the lifetime license it changed.
